Waterproof spray

What is the recommended waterproof spray to use on the soft top please

Some use Fabsil on the canvas (mohair) hood. It’s ok for a while and beads off the water well. Some also say you don’t need to apply a waterproofing product as the covering on the hood is rubberised.
The key to keeping the hood nice is keeping it clean. Wash with a mild soapy substance, I used baby shampoo and a light soft brush about every 3 months. In-between I just rinsed it when washing the car and wiped over with a microfibre drying cloth.

On a vinyl hood I used just soapy water, dried off and applied a rubber/vinyl product like Autoglym make, not good for mohair though but yes to all rubber seals on the hood.

I wouldn’t use a spray. Buy something like Renovo soft top cleaner and Renovo Ultraproofer, a cheap 2" paintbrush, and follow the instructions.

Unfortunately fabric roofs that live outside pick up dirt and grit, grow moss and fade. If you can’t garage it, consider a half cover (lots of threads on these on this forum). Easier of course if it isn’t in daily use.

A second benefit of the half cover is that rain run off bypasses the drains, keeping out the muck and leafy matter that blocks them and leads to the car being wet inside.

Thank you both so much. Some really good tips here

Another vote for the Fabsil + half cover approach. I tried an autoglym restorer set and whilst the cleaner was good the waterproofing spray wasn’t as effective at creating the beading you get with Fabsil.

Final point… Fabsil gold is the one most commonly used and will give the strongest hydrophobic effect but I ended up getting the Universal option as this also contains UV protection to help stop fading. It probably means reapplication slightly more often but as my car sits outside it seems like a reasonable compromise.

Very much depends on if you have vinyl, canvass or mohair, I used nothing on my vynil until it split at 21 years old.

Replaced vynil with second hand non OEM canvas, I use fabsil gold on that except the back panel which has the rear window glued in. fabsil will act as a solvent on the glue so to date I have used autoglym on the back panel only. The autoglym does not bead rain as well as fabsil.

Hope that helps.

Just done my roof last week with Renovo. Two coats of black reviver . One coat Ultraproofer put on with 2’in brush. Will give it a second coat of reviver before the winter plus a deep clean first.
