The Waverley is due on the South Coast on 1st September. My better half and I are booked on a cruise (paddle?) from Poole to Weymouth in two weeks. Can’t wait. The Waverley was a regular sight cruising from Bournemouth pier to the Isle if Wight years ago. A beautiful sight.

Aye but she’s safely moored at the Forth Road ( how apt) up the Thames for now. There will be good reasons…she uses more fuel than Bugatti at full chat! She’s done so well. Shrugged it all off.

Bon Voyage Terry. She looks after her guests well. Nice comfortable lounge sets downstairs and…sort of…decent hot grub. Too dear really but a day out is just that. She needs every cent possible for her winter dry dock super service.

Thanks. We’re really looking forward to it.

And…she’s off!

And according to vesselfinder.com she is heading for Halifax, Canada. Going to have to get a spurt on as she’s due there tomorrow afternoon.

Some lovely shots cropped up on Facebook of her trip down the East Coast.

Met up with the Yorkshire Belle from Bridlington.

While following your thread I have been thinking how nice it is for you to be able to follow a ship your father worked on all those years ago. My grandfather was also a cabinet maker on a well known ship but I can’t see that ship without substantial diving gear, it was the Titanic…!

DIESEL DOG HELPS WAVERLEY ON FIRST EVER AUGUST VISIT TO THE THAMES

Waverley Update - Friday 29th August 2025

After departing Dundee on Wednesday Waverley made good progress down the east coast passing locations such as Cromer which have rarely heard her paddle beat.

After bunkering in Dundee the intention was to then bunker again at Portland which would have seen Waverley reach towards her passage limit between bunkering. However late on Thursday evening she had to reduce speed due to wind and sea conditions and by Dover it was decided that conditions were not suitable to continue. Shortly after midnight Waverley turned and proceeded to a safe anchorage off Margate.

The challenge was then to source sufficient fuel at very short notice. Given that fuel is normally ordered around 48 hours in advance trying to source 26,000 litres with just a few hours notice is a very tall order. After several phone calls and contact with various suppliers Diesel Dog came to the rescue and delivered fuel to Waverley at Tilbury this afternoon.

It has been some years since Waverley last berthed at Tilbury as it hasn’t been a calling point since the rebuilt pier opened at Gravesend in 2012.

Waverley departed Tilbury at 4pm and is once again paddling on what is hoped the final leg of a mammoth journey. Her destination is now Dartmouth to meet Paddle Steamer Kingswear Castle and then offer an evening fireworks cruise on Saturday to mark the end of the Dartmouth Royal Regatta. Tickets for this cruise are still available and can be purchased online at waverleyexcursions.co.uk

Waverley’s visit to Tilbury marks her first ever visit to the Thames in the month of August. She will be back on the Thames from 23rd September until Sunday 12th October.

That’s her safely up the Dartmouth Estuary at last. I was never worried of course, always knew she’d romp it.
