Waving to fellow-mx5 drivers must be made law

Liz, if I lived next to you I would wave at you to, just so you would keep that enormous dog on a lead so it wouldn’t eat me Waving

Only owning a 5 for a fortnight I involuntary waved at a lady in a red mk1 she did wave back which was nice!

But having ridden bikes for years and this thread is just the same as the bike forums, some do some dont I used to do it on purpose because most jap bike riders (IMO) never wave to anyone, too busy trying to hang on I suppose or the wieght on their wrists is so much they daren’t let go Big Smile All Harley riders will check if your alright  I you ever pulled over for any reason a HD rider would always thumb up or thumb down to see if all was OK jap bike riders would snear and carry on…the myth that HD’s are unreliable is rubbish in 20 yrs of riding the same one it never broke down!

funniest was when I pulled up at a set of traffic lights and a yamhonkawasuki pulled up reving I looked and nodded he sneared, lights changed to green he stalled I pulled away so I waved and laughed my head off good job his visor was tinted his face must have been red Wink

Hi Stuart, do you mean this ‘nice little dog’ busy playing with his latest toyWink

He says hello Dog you maybe pleased to know I’m not bringing my guard dog to FalmouthWaving

Hi Starson75, yes it should be law,we need to get more of this going. I used to have a VW micro bus and you couldnt get away without a wave or flash from all other Bettles and Camper vans, it was a reflex action. Keep it going, dont give up,any mx5 anywhere. Must tell you though. i was at a set of traffic lights that stay red for ages and opposite was a mk3 lecy roofy. I poped my lights up with the dash button several times with no response from the lady in the mk3. She then raised the roof and retracted it again just in time for the lights to change. I`m not sure if she thought i was showing off or something, but shy sure was , we both got a big grin out of it anyway.      MK1 the origional and the perfect best.

Hi

I have only owned my MX5 for just over a month, but have yet to receive a wave from another owner. Was just wondering whether it’s a regional thing or not? Here in East yorkshire it doesn’t seem to be the done thing.

In the past I have owned a VW Beetle, Citroen 2CV, various motorhomes/campers & have just retired from biking, hence the purchase of the MX5. The common factor of all those vehicles is that fellow owners almost all gave a wave or flash of lights, or both.

Having read the thread through it appears there is a belief that Mk1’s are the main participants of acknowledging other MX5’s on the road. Surely all marks are in the same group of cars, ie Mazda! Why don’t we treat all the same?

For my part I am going to try & encourage a return wave in my local area, so come om guys, prove me wrong!

Chris (waves goodbye) Waving

I have just spent a week on holiday in Norfolk/Suffolk…and had no waves…I was starting to get anoyed when I realised I had the wife and 2 kids in the car and was driving the Volvo !

First thing I did when I got home…check she was all right in the garage, (the MK3 not the wife) and the neighbour who looks after the house had not nicked it like he said he would…I had to tell him where the key was in case of fire…save the car…first !

Shame no one waves in “Heartbeat” Country maybe it’s because the MX5 has not yet been invented up there, or they still hate the Japs following the war, and still drive those things that break all the time…erm…Triumphs I think they were called Big Smile I don’t think it’s a “Yorkshire” thing as my wife is from there…and she waved at me the other day !

Had the Mk1 over a year and never had a wave in Norfolk or Suffolk. I must look very angry or something. Sad

WOW I had a wave returned from a 3.5 driver.

Day number 1 back on the rd! Saw a mk13 and got a wave when I popped my lights and saw a mk 2 and got a smiley wave  smashing!

Karlos the blade

Try coming to Woodbridge Big Smile

Have to have a run and see one sunny day. Smile

A Mk13…wow! Mazda have been busy!!!

Glad you got a wave Karlos!

Damn, we were in Woodbridge saturday afternoon on our first proper hoon out from Bedford to my folks in Ipswich. Hood down all the way to Felixstowe Port 1st thing saturday morning. Fantastic. What a great drive the '5 is…

Incidently, out earlier today before the rain - to Grafham Water. Coming back we waved/flashed lights at x2 rev3’s - no response.

But then also a beautiful black Ford Capri 2.8i (5 speed transition model with shark grey velour interior and LSD… yeah, i love Capri’s), he looked confused by us. But then success!! Yes, a big grin from a chap we gave the thumbs up to, coming the other way… in a mk3 Ford Cortina!

Next time you are thinking of visiting Woodbridge let us know Big Smile

We wouldn’t have seen you Saturday afternoon as we were at our daughters wedding Big Smile

Will do and congtratulations. Smile

Thank you Big Smile

Got a friendly wave from a passing MK3 (French plates) driving from Ypres to Calais today.

We had the lid up - it was hammering it down.

He had the hood down and the girl beside him looked soaked! Winner!

doh! i shouldnt be allowed to use a mobile, fat fingers! it was a mk3

great to get back in the 5 tho!

Karlos

I grew up with my dads capri’s (he’s had 13!)  the last one he had was a 2.8i special. I loved it.

I got a wave from a man in a lovely icon when i flipped my headlights at him - at last !!!
