Wax Oil

It has been suggested that I have my Mk3 Wax oiled  … what is the general opinion on this?

Can anyone recommend where I can get this done?

I would appreciate any comments!!

Thanks everyone for your input and recommendations … I have booked my 5 in to have Dintrol treatment at Cleverley Repaired Cars Stradbroke at end of July

There are large areas underneath the MK3 that are not rustproffed from the factory.

You have to get someone who will clean the underneath, repair any existing rust problems, paint those areas, let dry then put on the underbody goo.

Waxoyl is not the only product avaialable to do that job.

Expect to pay around £300 or a bit more to have the job done.

Sorry I am no where near you, therefore I cannot advise a vendor.

If you intended to keep the car for some time, yes it is a good idea.

On the other hand, some people change their car every few years, in that case if you may do that, do not bother with the rust proofing.

I reckon yes, uk mx5 rot all too easily. Doing it yourself will be cheaper and you’ll know its done properly

I can’t find the link to a comprehensive long term ‘waxoyl’-type products test that was posted some time ago - but one product consistently outshone all the others - Bilt Hamber Dynax S-50.  It’s available in large aerosols with a 30cm extension hose, as well as the usual tins for air gun application.  Opie Oils on eBay do the best deal - I’ve just bought two, and started yesterday - unbolted the rear of the front wings, brushed out and liberally sprayed.  Messy, but should do a good job.

Here is a link for some rustproofer comparisons:

I recently had our car done by Cleverly Repaired Cars in Stradbroke, Suffolk. He is an MX-5 specialist and I would highly recommend him, he did a very good job.

An alternative to waxoyl is Dinitrol, I had my 3.75 treated with it last October and am pleased with the result.

some details are here http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/yaf_postsm547918_Dintrol-body-treatment.aspx#post547918

The dinitrol website has a copy of the OC article from a few years ago on Dinitrol Treatment of a NC.

There is another thread about waxoyl here http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/yaf_postst84074_Waxoil-Service.aspx

just search the forum for dinitrol or waxoyl for more info

I’ll second that if you are in this part of the world… He will do Waxoil or Dintrol. Dinatrol being the more expensive but the better option in quite a few peoples opinion…

CRC did the Dintrol treatmeant on my MK1 almost a year ago and its still slighty tacky to touch. Its a very good product and hes always does a A+ job on any work.

Waxoil would have been cheaper but I heard nothing but good stuff about the dintrol so I went down that route.
