I’ve recently given our company website a bit of an overhaul. We have a lot of traffic and are happy with the response we get from our site. We would like to purchase some other web names, but would like the new names to direct the traffic to our site.
Is this as easy as it sounds or is it a bit of a headache ?
It should be very easy - just a case of having DNS point to your current server, and possibly setting up host-headers, depending on your setup.
Do you host your own site, or is it done externally? If it is external, it should be no problem at all, just make sure your hosting company supports it (most do).
If all you want to do is re-direct the traffic for the new domains to your exsiting domain then just set up the new ones as “forwarders”. If your hosting company cant do that then change them ! We set them up all the time for our customers.
Someone hosts our website for us and we’ve been very happy with their service. I just wanted to get an idea if it was that easy before talking to them, just incase they start spurting that we need “this and that” for it to happen.
I’ll contact them later and see what they say. [:D]
Have a word with Gary Smith (smiffy). He has registered the various Eastern Region and Merlot domain names for us and points them where ever we need them to go… And for most names you are talking a few pounds a year for the regisration…
