Welder needed Manchester Area?

I posted this problem yesterday and have had no replies, can anyone help with a welder near me?

http://www.mx5nutz.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=39144

Oh come on someone must know a welder?Confused

If this is a Cat C car that has been repaired then it must have passed a VOSA inspection before it was allowed back on the road. If the car has been legitimately passed by VOSA then is any further repair really necessary?

 Hi niggle
The problem is the repaired inner wing has been over lapped over the orginal inner wing and was hidden from veiw by the rad bottle etc so has not been repaired to a high standard there is no welding what so ever under the bonnet (although there is a  welding seem under the wheel arch some inch’s away from the over lap from under the bonnet) and i can put a screwdriver under the new section with ease and i’m sure it will flex and move under normal driving conditions, this is on the drivers side inner wing and the same section on the pass side as had the same repair but is welded up solid.  if there is anyone local to manchester that can weld this up for some pocket money for tracy i’m sure she will be forever in your debt, unfortunatly i don’t weld otherwise i would of done this for her,Tracy now that we have found the extent of the damage i need to check your out riggers etc this weekend to find out just how far the impact to the car went.

NIGGLE i don’t know how this car passed the VOSA inspection, tracy as had a lot of work done which IMHO should of already been done before being allowed back onto the road,so work is on going, i will get it right  for her.fingers crossed.
KIND REGARDS

COME ON, ALL THESE MX/ROADSTER DRIVERS ON HERE AND NO ONE KNOWS OF OR CAN HELP???WE ARE NOT TALKING MAJOR REBUILD HERE JUST A BIT OF TAG WELDING.THIS WILL TAKE ALL OF AN HOUR AT THE MOST.

WAYNE

Yes a further repair is necessary as it will make the car safer.  Whoever did the VOSA inspection was not very good.  My daughter rides in this car too and I would rather have it perfectly safe for both of us.  Its my pride and joy and I want it to stay that way.

Looks like I may have found a welder in yorkshire off nutz.  Watch this space.

With the greatest respect, for your daughter’s sake then maybe you should consider having the car professionally inspected and repaired, given it’s history and your doubts about its roadworthiness?

Are you absolutely sure that all your car needs is a bit of seam welding on some inner wing panels to render it completely safe?

It is being inspected every single week by wayne who is professional enough for me, its passed its mot twice, its been checked everywhere.  We only noticed this problem when the coolant reservoir was removed, otherwise we did not know it was there.  It is roadworthy.

I knew it had a cat c accident when I bought it two years ago.  Read waynes post again and understand it.

I trust my mechanic completely and the car is always having stuff done.  Its almost been rebuilt.

Probably no need to panic then and no need for additional welding. The area in question is well away from the suspension mounts and chassis rails. Slap some seam sealer or underseal in the overlap to stop the onset of corrosion and forget about it.

On the other hand, if you feel that the unsealed overlap is affecting the structural integrity of the car then it is not roadworthy - you can’t have it both ways.

Hi Tracey

I’ve just had my shocking sills repaired by Mike Entwisle in Prestwich: http://www.mgworkshop.net/home.html

He specialises in MGs but has experience with MX-5s to. He’s
old-school, takes his time, takes pride in the work and prices are
reasonable.

Give him a call and drive in one day. You’ll find him very helpful and friendly.

Wayne will tell you how bad my sills were. They’re perfick now.

Andy
