Looked at an 03 plate car and when I lifted the boot lid water was dripping off the inside of the lid. No sign of water in the actual boot compartment. Is this level of condensation normal??
Not normal, no. If you do get the boot damp then, yes the moisture will condense under the bootlid, particularly when the weather’s as cold as this. It takes ages to dry out unless you can leave it open in the sunshine for a while. The question is how did it get wet in the first place. It could just be something innocent like stowing wet raincoats in the boot, but it might be a rain rail leak, or a rear light cluster seal, or a dislodged drain tube on the 'leccy aerial.
Thanks for the response. It didn’t seem right to me either.
If you have got water dripping off the boot lid then you have got water in the boot somewhere that is why it is condensing on the lid.
Content deleted! My error - I read ‘Mk3’ instead of ‘03’ in my haste and posted regarding the Mk3 drain modification issue. [:S]

Hi Nobby saw your original post and although it was a Mk2.5 I think that the problem was due to blocked drains as when I slid my hand between the hood and the body there was a lot of moisture.
Anyway in the end I didn’t buy that car as got a good deal on a 53 plate 1.8 Sport which has hardly ever been out in the rain!!
Must say I don’t blame you for rejecting the earlier car with the wet boot.
The issue is really over how long the drains might have been blocked and any consequential hidden damage that may have been caused by this. I remeber when I was helping my daughter to look for a Mk2 a few years ago, we rejected a perfectly nice car that clearly had blocked drains and damp rear carpetting
Maintenance of these drains is a sure sign of a reasonable attentive owner and blocked one’s can speak volumes about the opposite.
