Wet carpets! First job where to find new screw covers?

2012 NC. Wet carpet with all this heavy rain. All drain holes clear. An online search says scuttle grommets the most likely cause. Went to investigate and snapped the lugs off these screw covers. Can I get replacements anywhere? Any views on the wet carpet? Many thanks. Nice to have folks to ask!

Here…..

Buy a couple as the tabs break when removing.

Plenty of info re scuttle grommet sealing, do a search.

I’d use a wet vac on wet carpets or dab as much wet from the carpet as you can and let it dry naturally. You can lift them to aide drying, the plastic sill covers lift off on clips so you can get under the carpet.

Thank you so much! Appreciated

Yes you can…..

I’ve recently renewed my scuttle grommets as the rubber gaskets had perished on the original ones. However, this may not be linked but in the last few days I’ve noticed a crack in the windscreen that originates from the edge near the lower corner on the driver’s side. Was this caused by me over tightening the screw that holds the plastic trim in place? I can’t believe so as I wouldn’t have tightened it that much, but an odd coincidence.

That’s what happened to mine and the chap said it was a stone chip that had hit the outer edge and hence got bigger and then a new screen.

If the stone hits “other” than the edge you normally get the “chip”, but on the edge it cracks over a few days when used and getting different temperatures.

So no not over tightened.

I’d guess that there was some grit between the plastic scuttle panel cover and the windscreen.

Windscreens are fickle things, as an apprentice I remember throwing dampers at one in a skip and it wouldn’t break but another cracked when I accidentally tapped it with a ratchet handle removing a steering wheel nut.

I think that it was the Ford Ka which had the cabin filter under the windscreen scuttle. If you didn’t clean that area properly after replacing it on a service the screen would crack shortly after.

I did wonder this, and there could’ve been, but whilst I had the plastic scuttle off I cleaned the area up as it was grubby and had probably never been since it rolled off the production line. However, the crack does originate from that bottom edge that goes under the scuttle, so I guess it must be possible.
