Driving home from work tonight I started to wonder if it was just me or if anyone else has anything about their car that annoys them? One small thing is the fact that the headlights go cloudy but the main one and the reason for me wondering is the lack of an extra gear. It really bugs me when I get to 50 or 60mph that I can’t change up and drop the revs. I’m constantly checking to make sure I’m in 5th gear. ![]()
Were you driving home for Christmas? That’s annoying, heard it ten times or more this week.
Cloudy lights. Tick.
Windscreen wash lever. Should be pull to wash.
ND, lack of a glove box. The storage (drop down flap) one in-between the seats is also useless to me and passenger, you have to be a contortionist to get to it sitting. Small annoyances I know, most everything else👍
ND1 (perhaps applies to all Mk 4s?) : pool of water gathering on floor behind my driver’s seat due to blocked drainage pipe ![]()
Never use a glovebox in a car on regular basis, the only thing that lives in there is the manual. The lack of refinement is my big thing, wouldn’t want to run it as an everyday car.
‘24 model year NE - The Intelligent Speed Assist audible warning.
‘94 NA - Just the fact that it’s getting on a bit so uses a bit of oil and the gearbox is noisy.
That’s a contradiction, so it is of use to you😉
Not really, it’s just long term storage, how often do you look at the manual.
Lack of auto-up on Windows. Should at least be a key-fob function; been caught out a couple of times switching off before putting the roof up.
4 cup holders!! WHY??
Changing the headlight bulbs on an NC. You need ‘E.T’s’ illuminated finger to do the sodding job! Why didn’t they have done with them completely and just bury them behind the dashboard and connect the lenses up by fibre optic cables …… Sheesh!?
On my NC - the sunshades foul the mirror when I try to put them fully forward. Annoying as it knocks the mirror out of whack every time I want to use them.
Road license fund band
Lack of refinement? My Spridget, my MGA and my Morgan Plus 4 all lacked bucket loads of refinement but they all had more cabin storage space than the ND.
25 model year NE - auto-dimming rear-view mirror. There is no way to switch off the dimming, at night I have no idea if the vehicle behind me might be a copper. (I do love the mostly frameless design though). I also feel like it’s pretty refined IMHO.
Doesn’t auto-dim on my 25AE. The button turns the LED on and off and that is about it.
I’ve played around with it, cleaned the ambient light sensor in case it was full of finger dirt (should have been permanently dim in that case, but no variation), and taken it off to have an electronic engineer’s look inside, but gave up trying to prise it apart because it felt as if I was going to break something!
And it does work as a mirror…
Same type of mirror on the Mazda3 works fine, about a second for the dim function to wake up after pressing the button.
Useless gadgets like cruise control and heated seats which I have never (and will never) use.
Mine is the Homura if that makes any difference? It has a frameless auto-dimming rear-view mirror with no buttons at all. It dims without any input from me with no option to disable the feature.
Note: Mine is a MY2025 not a 25AE
thing that annoys me on my Nd is the fact you can here the wiper motor only car I have ever had that you can here it only a small thing but it niggles me
What’s all this NE business? Have I missed something? Can’t all be driving Fiats surely?
I wish the engine sounded nicer in my ND1. No amount of exhaust and induction noise can overcome the agricultural sound of a direct injection four pot, particularly at start up. My NA only sounded nice when it was smothered with supercharger too.
I wish the rotary control for the screen didn’t feel like it was made by Kelloggs as well. Otherwise, yes, the lack of one touch or auto window closing is annoying.
