What brakes are on my 1.6 Nevada

I need a new front brake caliper for my 2003 1.6 Nevada as the seal on the piston is gone.

I got a new caliper from the local autoparts store and it is smaller than the one on the car; it’s the caliper that was listed on their system but it doesn’t match the one on my car.

I know you can get a big brake kit for the 1.8 but I didn’t think it would fit on the 1.6; I measured the discs and they seem to be 270mm in diameter. Has someone fitted the big brake kit to my 1.6?

Is there a different caliper mounting bracket for the big brakes as the new caliper I have will not fit the mount on my car and I can only see one mouting bracket listed on MX5 Parts. The space between the slider bolts on the new caliper is aprox 115mm, the space on the caliper on the car is about 125-130mm. I need to know what I have so I can get new parts.

Hopefully someone can help.

Hi

Take the old caliper to the auto parts store and ask them to match it.

You appear to have the discs off the Mk2.5 Sport as they were 270mm in diameter at the front. The normal 1.6 and 1.8 Mk2 and Mk2.5 have 255mm front discs.

I suggest you phone Autolink as the dismantle these cars and should be able to identify and supply a replacement calipier.

Not just MX5’s but a lot of other cars sometimes do not have the componet normal specified actually fitted to the car. Could the fact that you have a special edition mean Mazda have possibly fitted uprated parts.

Andrew will sort you outThumbs up

The big brakes have a slider pin with a threaded hole in it that the caliper bolts into. All other brakes (except NC) have a fixing bolt and slider pin as one. NC have the same arrangement as the big brake NB.
