What car have I got?

I’m just trying to look up the specs of my car out of interest, and I have realised that I have no idea which version / model I have. 5 speed manual gear box. Alloy Wheels.

I know it’s a 2.0 2006 NC, but when I look in Parker’s price guide, the models have names  like Launch Edition, Sport Black, Sport…

I have cloth trim, none height adjustable seats, not heated seats, front fog lights were added as an extra, NO aircon.

So all in all, very basic, which is what I wanted but how can can I tell which one I have?

The VIN is JMZNC18F200108947 if that helps

If you post the VIN number somebody will be able to check for you.

If you have the vehicle documents I would expect the details would be there somewhere, probably handwritten in the front of the service manual.

It sounds like a standard 5 speed 2.0 litre. The models you listed from Parkers are the special editions.

This is a good source for info…

Reckon your car is the top one, they usually fit the alloys and as you say maybe a later addition of the fogs.

In the States you can actually call Mazda with the VIN to get the original specs on the car. I did this to confirm that the used 2015 I was buying had an LSD.

I would expect that you could do the same in the UK.

As has been advised it is not a special edition, therefore is not a Launch Edition.

It has a 5 speed gearbox and a 2 litre engine, therefore it is not a Sport.

There are two possible cars it could be from early 2006, either a 2 litre base model or a 2 litre SE model.

From your description it is not an SE model.

Therefore it can only be the 2 litre base model.

Can I suggest that you do not display the VIN number on an open forum as it may be used by some iffy people to clone a car.

There is one unusual thing about it but I will personal message you about that.

Hi there - sounds like you’ve got a NC1 (also known as MK3) 2.0 Option Pack model.

These are real nice, although some had more options than you’ve got you’ve not got ’ a base model’.

In fact, after talking to a someone who worked at a Mazda dealer at the time I don’t think there can be many (if any) base models in the uk,

(stand to be corrected of course)

The equivalent NC2 (or MK3.5) were known as SE.

Thanks All for your assistance.

One way is to put registration in an insurance comparison site, it should come up with what the car is.

Tried that and it does not work, just says it is a MX5, 2006 convertible, 2000cc.

The problem is the vin number leads you via the Mazda parts system and it cannot say what wheels were on the car at point of sale, steel or if aluminium which style, if the steering wheel has the radio control buttons or not. etc., etc.

You can get that from the vin number on a Mk2.5 but not on the NC1.

If you look at the linked postings Robbie Roadster is tending towards a SE and it also appears they did not all come with the same exact spec in that timescale.

From the link posted by Raymond,

The option pack included:

  • Premium cloth soft-top
  • Stainless steel scuff plates
  • leather steering wheel with audio controls, leather gear knob
  • leather handbrake lever with silver release knob
  • 16” alloy wheels
  • two additional speakers
  • front tunnel storage net
My last NC1 was that spec albeit a 1.8 engine. Side by side, a friend had a base model. We compared and the steering wheel was plastic, no chrome sill covers, plain gear knob and handbrake, no cargo net. We didn't check the rear speakers out though. It I'd have the OEM 5 spoke wheels but could have been retro fitted. No front fogs and the column stalk had no provision for them. Sounds very much like base + option pack. Mine also had drivers height adjust seat though but no heat and cloth trim. 2007 model year.

If only. I get all sorts of things, usually a Mazda 323SE.
