What does your MX5 cost to insure?

Hi everyone,

Hope you are well. I am a newbie to the forum.
I have recently divorced my 2016 Mini Hatchback and married a used MX-5, 2013 2.0i Sport Tech.
I love my ‘new love’ very much!

I have a question about insurance/warranty.
The dealer has been persistent to get me to buy an aftermarket warranty.
I know it is a logical thing to do with a used car, but I am not sure who is the best provider in terms of cost and coverage.
I have a monthly budget and would like to stick to it considering the cost-of-living crisis.
Any advice?
Greatly appreciated your input.

Cheers,
Jas

Don’t bother with a warranty, especially on a 9 year old car. There will be loads of exclusions citing ‘it’s wear and tear’ if you think you have a claim.
Only ever had one warranty on a car in my life, I’ve got by without any major faults in nearly 50 years of driving. The one claim on that warranty was for an AC condenser packed in, it’s damaged sir not faulty, hard luck, give us £360 for replacement.

Just to add, chuck your monthly budget in a pot for such a time that you may need it for something going wrong. These cars are pretty reliable if serviced correctly, find yourself a decent MX-5 specialist to look after the car.:+1:

The ten most reliable cars in the country have been named and could save drivers thousands of pounds in repairs. Warrantywise has conducted the fresh study.

It used warranty data from over 130,000 plans. In top spot was the Honda Jazz, with a £973 highest repair cost and a reliability score of 93.

Mazda’s 2 was next, with 89, and a repair cost at its peak of nearly £2,500.

The Toyota Auris, Mazda MX-5 and Toyota Aygo were in the top five too.

Then it was the Kia Ceed and Kia Rio, before the Suzuki Alto, Hyundai i20 and Peugeot 107.

Lawrence Whittaker, CEO of Warrantywise said: “It’s unsurprising to see Honda top the table, given how reliable its cars have proven to be time and time again, with the results of our Reliability Index.

"The Reliability Index is such a great tool for us to be able to evaluate the market and help our customers make the right choice for them when it comes to deciding which car to purchase; especially now with the cost of parts and labour on the rise and people genuinely searching for the best options to suit their needs.

Hi MickAP,

Thank you for your advice.
It is really helpful, and very much appreciated.
Yes, the car has been serviced yearly since brand new.
I am very pleased with the purchase as it even comes with a personalised plate.
Pics can be seen here.
Now I just need to find a front fog light bezel, left hand side.
The clips of the current are broken.
I have logged a request with MX5parts.co.uk. Wish me luck!!!

Thank you once again for your advice.
