What exactly do I need for a aftermarket radio fit in a MK2.5?

So I might be being dense…but I see plenty of single din adapters (the single fascia + the cubby) for my NB (currently has the stock Mazda 2din unit fitted) for £20 or as, but I also see some listings for a little metal bar to fit in the middle of the compartment to maybe support a single din sitting at the top of the double din hole…

Tldr…can anyone point me to the most affordable fitting kit that has everything I need in it (doesn’t have to have the iso harness I figure any MK2 harness will work) that I can buy in one go to do the job.

Thanks in advance!

I fitted an Alpine single din unit into my mk2.5 last year.

All I used was:

 - The Alpine stereo (mine was a single DIN unit)

 - A wiring loom connector, which plugs between the Alpine unit and cars own plug connector.  Available from MX5 for a decent price

 - Cubby/box to fill up the other hole

Very easy job to do.  Took me maybe 30 mins, most of which was spent working out the best way place to put wiring and the optimum location for the mic (I drilled a small hole in the cubby and have mine mounted in it).

Thanks for info. I thought maybe I needed the thin black surround piece of plastic (seems to come with the off the shelf single din / cubby kits) to slot in around the the edges of new radio.

My radio came with a surround that allowing it to fit in the slot.  Nothing more was needed for that.

Just ensure that you watch a decent video on how to remove the existing unit, so you know how to remove the current cover.

Ah, I’ve just realised the stereo doesn’t have it’s original cage, will I need to fit a new cage as well or is whatever’s keeping the original mazda unit in place able to accept a typical single din stereo?
