Hi all. The trim that covers the stitching that holds the glass window onto my soft top is starting to peel away and I was wondering what is the best type of adhesive to use to re-stick it.The car is a 2.5 if that makes any difference

When we fitted hoods the glued sections were always done with impact adhesive (like Evostik)
Gorilla Glue is recommended frequently over on the other forum (miataforum). Widely available here now.
Thanks Saz. I often use a contact type glue in spray cans for sticking carpet tiles down at work. I was wondering about using that,but your suggestion and the previous posters would be a lot less messy
The old yellow Evostick contact adhesive is excellent for a while, but eventually it tends to go brittle and crumbly, especially if exposed to UV, heat and flexing.
For example it was very effective repairing cuts etc on my ski jacket, (patch glued to the inside of the outer layer so only the hint of a slit was visible, sometimes reinforced by some similar coloured Tesa tape on the outside) and good for about five years then needed redoing. After almost twenty years of three weeks a year the jacket was rotted by the high altitude sun and mostly green Tesa tape, so it was replaced.
I have seen a report somewhere that said this glue was useless. If you put a blob of it onto some wood for instance, and don’t spread it about, just let it dry, then cut through it with a razor blade or Stanley knife it looks like the old Aero chocolate you used to buy. It is full of tiny holes making it weak as a result. I have used it but not happy with it after i used it on Wood. You will be able to get adhesives especially made for fabric etc, its just a case of finding it. Ask an Upholsterer, they will know.
Gorilla os OK for rough outside jobs, and very effective.
I’ve repaired a stone bird bath bowl with it for one thing.
But…you MUST wet the surfaces to activate it properly to provide the required H2O catalyst otherwise it just sets to a sort of toffee resin.
When wetted it expands into a sort of Caramac coloured foam as it cures.
I’d avoid using it for delicate applications.
What I would do, is pop into the famous Woolies website…and see what the pro’s use.

The reason why it failed for you is that you failed to follow the instructions. It’s a water activated glue, so you have to lightly dampen down the surfaces. You didn’t add any water.
Seems very strong to me. When properly used, your wood is going to break before the glue bond.
Finally got around to doing this job today. Went to The Range and purchased a product called Serious Glue,by Evostik.Obviously a job that needs the roof to be up,so to make access easier I ended up removing the passenger seat and roll hoop.Looks so much neater now
