At the recent MX5-30 British Motor Museum Rally at Gaydon, my wife Patricia had her Mk4 on display along with a Mk1, Mk2, Mk3 for Robert Marsh (roadster robbie) for him to do the tech day, the photos show Patricia with some special guests Steven Bird (Mx5 Brand Manager), Jon Bentley (Gaget Show) our own Roadster Robbie and including the Guru that is Tom Matano, to her delight Tom put his signature on the Air Filter Cover Lid of her car…so back to the point…Today I had the Tom Matano Signature ‘wrapped’ so as to preserve the writing…
Not so much today but more the last week or so. My Son’s Eunos has not been used for a year and it has been sitting on our drive under a cover. It starts fine and there are no faults on the diagnostics but the brakes had gone off.
I have just rebuilt all the calipers with new seals, pistons and rubbers in the caliper brackets plus new bleed nipples and rear brake adjusters. The discs and pads were new but the discs needed cleaning up. A satisfying but time consuming job that probably cost me, not him, about £100 and saved many times that if it had been taken to a garage for exchange calipers etc.
I shall now get it MOT’d asking our local garage to collect it as it is not insured at the moment. He will then insure it if it passes which it should do if the emissions are ok.
These are easy cars to work on for the DIY person, but the number of competent people seems to be in decline.
Today I took advantage of some decent weather and drove to the Donkey Sanctuary near Sidmouth, Devon. There were several mx5s on the roads, of various vintages, and most were up for a quick flash or wave. Some lovely scenery and good roads; a very enjoyable day.
Waxoiled boot, bonnet, rear arches inside the boot, doors and inside the sills from the top. Wheels off and wheel arch liners off for the next session.

Changed the rear pads today for the ebc green stuff pads, hopefully this might show improvement on the brake efficiency at the mot, it’s been borderline for the last couple of years on the standard pads.
Also gave me a chance to check the state of the underseal, all looks good!
Collected from MX from SGH Bodyworks in Bristol after new sills and front chassis legs welding, and straight for MOT, it passed. MOT guy remarked that the chassis legs welding was magnificent.
Plug change on my NC, which were probably the originals and had done 55k miles. I could have got away with not changing them but Im glad I made the effort as the old ones were tight due to corrosion. If left any longer I risked a broken plug.
I also gave my headlights a quick scrub with restorer.
