Just taken my fella out for the first time in my car since the upgrades.
Finally completed wiring up my blue led footwell lights. They look good already, but will be going out to the car later to see what they are like when it’s properly dark
Finished waxoiling today. Surprised at the location of the big box of electrical gubbins in the passenger front wheel arch. Looks a little vulnerable to deep water and splashing. Does any one know if it is fully water proof? I will certainly be more cautious when negotiating puddles and standing water now knowing what is down there.
I thrashed it M3 / M25 / M1 and back in thoroughly unpleasant weather. This is not going to be a pampered weekend pet. In 5 weeks I’ve done 1800 miles and fun nearly all the way. Although one wouldn’t count an AE30 as a relaxed cruiser, I was significantly less tired and stressed after today’s journey than the previous same runs in the old Toyota Verso which on the face of it seems a more suitable m-way drive. I guess the engagement in driving an MX-5 keeps one more alert - that and looking up at lorry wheel nuts!
I saw a couple of other 5s on the motorways, even a black mk3 with the top down on the M25 - I noticed he disappeared off and re-emerged hood-up just as the rain turned up!
Cheers
Will
Had a new windscreen fitted. The chappie said it was probably the first new one it has had ( 1997) and that there was no rust lying around when he took the old one out. Those guys are pretty exposed and self reliant in their job; off they go, all weathers, to meet a car that could be in all sorts of condition.
Fitted a Zunsport full grille to my mk4
Pity I had to put the number plate back on, and spoil the look!
That said, I saw a white mk4 near Billingshurst on Friday that had a stick-on number plate on the bonnet. Now that did look smart.
Fitted fog lights.
Removed fog lights
also replaced the drivers door window motor / mecanism and investigated the rot on the rear panel that is letting water into my recently bought ‘G’ reg Eunos
started off as this seen from inside the boot…
then with the rear-panel / numberplate surround removed…
was intending to make a repair plate but now will get a 'bodycut from a breaker (therea are many dead 5’s being broken)
the car had been in a garage over the last 6+ years with the engine in bits before I bought it so it’s being slowly re-commisioned
Rich.
Wire brushed and cleaned up underneath my NC yesterday and todays weather forecast was nice and dry until midnight ??. Wheels off to treat with Bilt Hammer Hydrate prior to undersealing and the heavens opened one hour into it with 10 minutes of torrential driving rain??
Done now just soggy under the car with water pouring out the drains. Just need some decent dry days to get the job finished with underseal and waxoil.
Had a check of the exhaust by local specialist, as thought I could detect a slight blow, but given a clean bill of health and comments that my underside was one of the cleanest they’d ever seen on a Mk2! Happy days.
Just removed a seized brake caliper ready to go of to be reconditioned. Cleaned up the carrier to be painted and will be replacing all the discs and pads on rebuild. I’m just glad I have a garage these days!
Lowered the rear of my '12 driver’s seat cushion using the ‘GordyM’ mod. I can now fit under the retracting hardtop with a helmet on, but it’s tight!
Whilst i had the centre console removed (to avoid scratching it whilst removing the seat) I took the opportunity to replace the turret oil with Ford Fully Synthetic BO 75w-90 Transmission Oil and to grease the two gear lever pivots as per Mazda’s service doc.
Even though the turret had some oil in already (although slightly lower that the correct level) the change has brought an immediate improvement. The baulky change down into third that had been bugging me has now gone completely!
Changed the nearside door mirror on my RF, that was fun but good to see the inside of the door behind the cards, the door has been treated inside with a waxy substance which is quite reassuring for the rest of the car, had to change it as the garage door savaged the original the other night, all back together working as it should, then added the carbon covers to both door mirrors to match them as the replacement mirror was a lovely bright red and I have a grey RF !. now indoors trying to get warm.
I wouldn’t be happy that the chassis is 100% protected without checking, just saying.
Replaced the feeble interior light bulb for a led one and just had a mobile locksmith cut me a spare key complete with immobilizer chip
Had a lovely top down run in the Cheshire countryside. Spoilt it by kerbing the front passenger side wheel! Gutted.
Took the 30AE for the Tesco trip. I’ll have to be careful because whereas in the SE-L I’ll be doing the legal 70mph, with everything feeling the same the 30AE is doing around 100mph! Whoops!
Had to put new batteries in both key fobs. One of the fobs had never been used but was completely dead.
After about 18 months?
They both go down at the same rate because they are looking for the car. Our spare key for the Mazd3 lives in a metal box in a metal desk drawer. It goes down at the same time as the key in daily use. Daft.
At three and a half years we are on the second set of replacements, needed just before the MOT.
Fortunately the batteries are dirt cheap and it is a five minute job to change both.
Gave the car a good thick coat of salt. You chaps in Scotland certainly know how throw it about.
