The 112 model
packed boot and we are off for a week driving around Pendle staying at stirk house . weather looks cold but dry
Bought it, drove it home, fitted a new set of wiper blades from Halfrauds.
Washed and dried it and vacuumed the carpets. Put an extra 6 psi in the tyres then put it back in the garage with a sheet over it. It’s now sorned until March 2020.
Project V special in colour along with some light bits of dust, nothing that a good wet flattening, cutting, and polish wont solve.
Had the front chassis rails repaired and the waterpump and cam belt changed by MX5 Restorer. The rear sills were properly repaired two years ago so the car should now be structurally sound for quite a while. The cam belt had been on the car since 2005 and done 53,000 miles. I have had the car 6 years now and it has cost me £3800 in repairs, MOTs and servicing over that time. I do my own servicing and with no depreciation I think it has been the cheapest 2nd car we have owned as well as the most fun.
Fitted a secondhand dashcam - given to me by a friend who’s recently upgraded his unit.
It’s quite some time since our NB had a proper run out - we have had far too many working weekends this year. I often work late evenings in the week and have had very few chances of attending any club runs, or even a spare day to just drive it when the weather has been half decent.
However, seeing as the weather has improved from cold and wet to cold, dry and very windy, it was a good day to drive our NB (which lives outside, albeit fitted with a hard top) to get the condensation out of it. So I did, just a quick half hour with the heater full on did the trick. Although it’s nearly 22 years old, it still drives like a new car.
That reminds me, I must put the battery on charge…
Just washed it and drove it to nowhere and back around back roads over the Cotswolds for 90 minutes cos i can and the sun was out and to burn off the newness smell of the Cobalt back box.

Good work in progress.
Good to see another Mk1 BRG getting a stay of execution.
We are a dying breed…
Please post up when it’s mopped?

I think Chris@ Restorer included your car in the recent “Drain your channels” YouTube video.
Yes it is on their YouTube Blog being mentioned in the car park but not shown being worked on. I have now driven it nearly 400 miles since collecting it last Friday. It’s reassuring to know that I can go to 7000 rpm if necessary without worrying about the cambelt.
I watched mine get loaded up and taken away to be assessed. A silly VW 4x4 somehow decided not to see my car at a set of traffic lights yesterday. Ouch, slightly sore neck, big bruise on my right knee, and needs at least a new bumper, light cluster and drivers side rear wing. Plus the boot sits about half an inch higher than it should on that side now. I don’t think he saw the lights either and was just carrying on around the roundabout until I got in his way. I’d been sat motionless for at least 10 seconds before he hit me.
only an 07 plate 1.8, but love my 5.
since sensible car had eaten its turbo i dragged my old mx5 out from the driveway, charged it and used it for a few essential journeys. Erk. A lot of condensation had got in so heater on full blast for the drives, gradually drying the poor thing out. Some tlc needed on the poor thing - wiper blades, clutch bleeding and a serious look at suspension - it’s clunking. Far too wet to look by the roadside but today will be a good time to get under the car. Luvverly thing in it’s raw way and thoroughly enjoyed slashing through the deluge!

Attacked the seat belts with some wet wipes and after drying some silicon polish, retracts so much better now. I was having to feed it back by hand every trip. Whilst i had the wipes gave the steering wheel and anything hands touch a going over, amazing how much black grime comes off even though it looks clean.

That sounds like a good deal of bodywork to sort out, hope it can be saved.
