My recently acquired 3.75 2.0 Sport Venture mx5 has certainly benefitted from the weeks of lockdown:
Ordered, painted and fitted mudflaps
‘plumbed in’ new centre brake light for the luggage rack
wirebrushed, cleaned, rust converted and painted rear and front subframes
First trial fitting of my prototype ND acrylic wind deflector. Having problems attaching the side trim guides. Rubber and 3M tape don’t like each other. More work needed but I’m nothing if not stubborn.
NC
Tidied up the bare areas in the engine bay with colour matched paint.
detangoed headlights, sprayed the grey plastic black.
Fitted skuzzle intake
Removed the bumper and removed numberplate, and filled all the holes in the bumper.
Need to put it all back together then fit new numberplate to a jassperformance mount
Well not as much as you’ve done! Excellent work going on there! I just went and looked at mine, sat in the garage looking forlorn Checked the oil level though, force of habit I think, as it’s not moved much!

I bought a new tyre pressure gauge, one that SWMBO can use without needing readers. It shows the same values as my fifty-four-year-old piston type, and both Mazda pumps.
But this new one is by far the clearest to read and the quickest and easiest to take a reading with. The only disadvantages are it’s plastic and needs four batteries, three LR44 and a CR2032; it will not last fifty-four years, but then neither will we!
Curiously, the Az price has gone up by £2 in the week since I bought it (£5.99 to £7.99)
My NB lives outside, right next to the tall hedge. It was absolutely covered in Cypress pollen and other dirt and looked rather sorry for itself so I gave it its 6 monthly wash and polish. I’ve now put a car cover over it. The inside remains very clean because unfortunately it’s not been driven for a very long time. My wife and I discussed whether we should sell it but the unanimous vote was not. There can’t be many rust free, very early Mk2s left.
A few things tackled during lock down, plenty more to go.
Firstly, fitted my new steering wheel from Royal Steering wheels, along with chrome heater control surrounds, a new gear shift boot (handbrake one to follow shortly…) and fitted my double din head unit, which sadly has a big scratch on the screen, but works okay. Not normally one for chrome addons, but seeing as this is a Niseko, it seemed only fitting.
And finally fitted my wind deflector, which came without the bolts to hold it down, so I had to improvise. I have ordered some plastic hand tightening ones, but I wasn’t paying attention and it turns out they’re coming from China, so they’ll take months! Doh!
I plugged in mine to a CTEK battery charger/ conditioner that arrived at lunchtime.
As I expected, it started to charge (I say ‘expected’ cos the engine turned over more slowly than usual when I took the car out of the garage at the weekend to wash it then put back in).
I await with interest to see if it automatically changes its charging mode as advertised
Installed LED rear number plate lights. Took about 2 minutes. Simply plug ‘n’ play.
£12.99 and free delivery from China. Delivery was an impressive 10days.
Very pleased. Just need to sort the corrosion, which I will do when I can source the paint.
I have very carefully removed the windscreen/scuttle trim on my ND, then extended the stupidly small drain holes such that they will not get blocked by the smallest piece of debris.
ND owners may also be very pleased to know that the plastic inserts for the fasteners that hold the trim down do not penetrate the scuttle metalwork and hence there will be no more leaks into the footwells of the car as suffered by previous model owners (including my NC).
Great job. It was only yesterday that I poked both the holes on mine with a small twig to get rid of the two puddles. Is there anything behind the holes? Wondered if they were piped away somewhere. If they are just straight forward holes can they just be drilled out carefully in situ?
