What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 1)

The ice on my car this morning makes it look like its a computer image with bad graphics

Does it make any difference when driving?

I have make something similar and have them in the sales section. £50 for clear, £55 for tinted.

My Roadie one does, it’s like driving with no wind jammer- completely clear rear view vision.

Also unlike one I had on my NC, there is NO reflection of oncoming car headlights reflecting off the wind jammer into your mirror, which was kind of offputting.

Highly recommended.

I’ve not had the chance to get up to high speeds, so difficult to say for sure. My main motivation is the aesthetics, any functional benefits is a bonus.

Went out in the MX5 with the roof down today to get my prescription from the doctor’s surgery. Went the long way round to charge up the battery as the car has been sat outside for 3 weeks. Dry and sunny but bloody cold (2 deg C). It was great to get out, have some very fresh air and have some fun. :sunglasses:  :+1:

I’m never happy with the location of my front numberplate. I liked it in the grille but was concerned about airflow. So I bought a smaller one. I couldn’t decide whether to space the digits legally or to keep the letter O with the numbers, but I settled on no spacing.

I got a rear numberplate to match the spacing, and ordered it on a larger plate so that it fills the recess more (without blocking the lock).

And I replaced the gearstick gaitor (the new one has white stitching) because it was cracked in a few places.

I’ve added the smoked LED number plate lights from MX5Parts. They look awesome, so much brighter than the original ones. Also got a set of rear sequential LED indicators to put on when I get a day off work. Also, got an air freshener.

I’m really on the fence at the moment for LED side repeaters, I can’t decide against smoked or clear. It’s on a pearl white ND RF. Going to get Piano Black mirror caps when MX5Parts gets both back in stock.

Another question for ND owners, has anyone got the boot storage thing with the carpet lid? I’ve got a few bits rolling around my boot and think this would be a really good investment but will I still have a relatively usable boot space?

Thanks.

Gearbox oil, diff oil, engine oil and filter,
Nothing untoward found lurking on emptying old oil out.
Nice.
Just waiting on selector plate then it’ll be the turret work.
Got to love tinkering on my daily drive NC!

Rick.

Do you have pictures of both options on cars?

I don’t unfortunately, but there is a post under the mod section called ā€˜project black’. In that post he has photos of his car before and after he put smoked repeaters on. And I’ve been staring at those photos for ages and still can’t decide :joy::joy:.

I have a blue car and bought clear. They didn’t look right so I covered them with some smoked window tint and they look much better as they blend in when not lit. Doesn’t affect the brightness, still possible to do laser eye surgery if you look too close.

I would think, personally, clear would look good on a white car. You can always tint them if you don’t like them but you can’t untint a tinted pair, if you see what I mean.

Hey. I’ve seen a few photos of your car and I’ve looked through your posts of your mods and I am looking at iJDMTOY brand for the side repeaters because of your recommendation and they do look good.

Thank you for your input. This is what I was thinking in the first place, as the clear would blend into my white car. But then I am about to buy them and think that the smoked would stand out. I think eventually I will have to bite the bullet on one.

Its a tricky choice! In my opinion, the clear ones will look good because they will blend in. But the dark ones will look good because they contrast!

Top tip - everything you change on your car, don’t get rid of what you take off. If you’re like me, you’re bound to change your mind at some point in the future!

Went to start my ND and the battery wouldn’t have it. Jumped it from my van and it ran lumpy with engine warning light, tpms warning light and traction control warning light on. Thought I’d done some damage.

Let it run for 30 minutes and turned it off and was only left with the engine warning light on and it was running ok.

I phoned themx5restorer just in case and Gareth said it should be fine. Drive it and it’ll settle down, 5 miles later it was ok, but took it for 20 miles round trip as luckily my wife needed picking up having walked 10 miles while I was worrying I’d knackered the car.

All is fine again.
Phew!

This is exactly my dilemma.

Don’t worry, I’m slowly get a collection of parts I’ve taken off my car

I always turn off the internal alarm sensors (bottom button on remote) in order to minimise battery usage during these non-motoring days.

I also top up for 24 hours on a battery Minder once a week.

Above due to a flat battery a couple of times due to minimal use.
