I’ll get my coat.
? Numberplate lights on the ?aluminium? boot lid?
Another freezing morning, another car project!
This was a lot less fiddly than the head unit, but really glad to have done it. Old wheel showed signs of wear, and to me felt very mushy and a little rotten when damp. This new one is fairly plain looking, but I’m glad I kept to basic black with silver stitching. Came from Royal Steering Wheels on their exchange option. Very impressed with the finished article!!
Always thought that aluminium corroded white and was non magnetic.
This corrosion was red/brown and a fridge magnet will stick to it.
Evening all!
Today I had the chance to get my kit out for the first time in while and truly see if my measurements were correct.
Once upon a time I was a touring live sound engineer until March 2020 (don’t ask) and I’d had many happy miles running my modded 2017 VW Golf estate GT 2.0tdi 25k miles a year all around the uk and Europe.
Come time to get a new car as things were looking up, I purchased a new ND2 RF 2.0 Sport Tech manual and collected it at the start of December 2020, on the premise that I wanted to size down and buy a car for what would cover 95% of my normal yearly use.
So the kit in question are my two 1535 Pelicases used to haul all my tech and tools for running large shows, festivals and conferences - with the addition of a tiny Peli 1120 for my external sound card. When I went to test drive the car I took one case with me and eyed it up in the boot to guess it would fit another - how close I was to being wrong.
A few pics attached and then two extra to see how they are orientated in the boot.
Best wishes and happy driving to everyone
Connor
That’s what I call a perfect fit
Erm… That was a confusing start.
However, I now realise you have enough talent to be in charge of packing my luggage.
Well done. My drums will need to go in my van

Thanks for this, I quickly emailed him and he is going to put ‘Miyako’ in red on the black bushes.
This should match the Miyako theme of black leather with red stitching and red showing through behind the perforations in the seats perfectly
Service appears to be excellent
Cleaned my drain filters and found sycamore leaves and seeds enough to know it was worth doing, cleaned the filter sponges in soap and hot water and got them like new. Then as I’d bought some mass air flow sensor cleaner I did that too. I’ll leave it to stand while the rain washes the salt away this week. We won’t use it again until next weekend at best and then only to get shopping. Hopefully the salt will be gone by then.
Looking forward to seeing them fitted!
Yes, promise to post some pics
They’re only stickers…I thought they’d be better than they were.
I have one of these, but as I’m single…!, had to buy it myself
Treated Connie to some super unleaded and the current weekly local drive out.
As a special treat, I put 25 quids worth of Shell Vmax into an emptyish tank a couple of days ago and it did feel and sound more urgent at high revs, as though the knock sensor was allowing more ignition advance than with the tesco super unleaded.
Totally subjective though
Was it a present from you to your Winning Blue???
How romantic
She does get treated well…it was to my winning blue from a tasty little black mx5
Not having dug mine out for far longer than I’d choose, (family headcount incremented by one leading to SORN etc.), I took the covers off and opened it all up, slightly worried about what I’d find…
All in all, a lot better than I’d expected and certainly nothing of concern. Which was nice.
While it’s been so cold recently and I can’t drive it anywhere anyway, I haven’t spent any time fettling for quite a while, so was lovely even just to give it a wipe over and look forward to temperatures above zero when I can get on with doing some tinkering.
A change to working circumstances, now with consistent working from home, means that we’re getting rid of the car I bought for commuting to work and SWMBO suggested that all funds received be put to getting the 5 back to useful condition. Which is very nice!
Ah, speed the day!
