My Aldi store is just under 3 miles away, yet it seems to be about a 16 mile round-trip !
Just fitted these myself, a little fettling with emery cloth for perfect fit.
The door feels and sounds a lot more solid now when shutting, great value for money !
Removed original door tweeters, modified the housing to accept larger tweeter.
Cut mesh away from door card tweeter , sanded and trial fitted.
Still needs a little fettling with 320 grit to smooth out .
Yes, I did quite a bit of sanding to get the bushes to be a nice sliding fit in the cups.
I also had to make the slots for the bolts a little looser to allow the fit to be adjusted satisfactorily.
I donāt know how consistently manufactured the cups are and if the bushes could be manufactured to be a better fit in the first place but at least being oversize means you can sand them to a pretty much perfect fit.
These bushes appear to be 3d printed and are not beautifully made but they do seem to do the job.
Its a shame they came with no instructions but at least instructions for other makes can be found on tinternet.
One tip I would pass on is to leave a window open when test shutting the doors. That way you are not pushing against the air pressure you are creating in the cabin when pushing the door shut, so you get a better feel for bush in cup fit.
Once you have sanded etc for a good fit I reckon these are amazing value for what is achieved but I canāt help wondering if some more expensive cnc machined ones might be worth a try if they fit well from scratch.
Drove to a nearby walking area for the first bit of ourdoor exercise since lockdown 3 kicked in.
Top down both ways, people smiling at us.
Yep I needed to open the slots a little also
Finally got a proper alignment sorted after fitting the Eibachs a couple of weeks back. Was monsoon conditions on the drive home so wasnāt able to give it the beans but seems proper. Sunās out over the weekend so Iāll give it a decent run out.
Those door bushes seem too good to be true? Might give 'em a go for the sake of a few quid.
Also, not necessarily something I did to the car, but I have planned a grand tour of the British Isles for the end of summer, where the MX-5 will take up transport duties. Starting in Glasgow and ending in Snowdonia by way of the Highlands, Edinburgh, Newcastle and the Yorkshire Dales. Not quite northern Italy where I was hoping to be but itāll do for me, all things considered.
I was fully prepared for my 14.99 to be a total waste of money but Iām amazed by how well they work.
You do have to make them fit though.
Iām not sure how long it took in total, maybe half an hour per side but I was in no great hurry.
You will get many different opinions on here and people with different experiences. After all we are all individuals. It is what makes a forum interesting. If we were all the same, the cars would not be changed and there would be no forum to discuss what we have done. As long as we respect each others choices, then thatās good. Look at this thread and the pictures of his RX8 - not everyone will like it, but there has to be respect for what he has done!
However if it works for you and you feel it was money well spent, that is all that is important, so great for you. I put them on my NA and there was certainly an improvement, so I was happy.
There are probably few people on this forum who have not spent money on their MX5 - in most cases just to spend some money on their car to make it more personal. The cars generally do not need anything, but the fact that there are so many different ways of making them more personal is great. I have not even got my ND yet (2 1/2 weeks and counting down!), but I have a stubby and a pipercross air filter already waiting and then do not āneedā themā¦
Hi,
I agree that on an older car with body flex these bushes could stop some of the squeaks and rattles and possibly add to the structure stiffness. I think however, that I would be very careful about making them too tight a fit. As somebody has already stated the door bushes are there to ensure alignment of the door lock system in the event of a shunt and also ensuring that the forces are transmitted correctly through the structure. If the door bushes are too tight there is the possibility that any slight distortion due to a shunt will cause the bushes to bind in the receiver cup to the extent that it could make the door very difficult to open if needed in an emergency.
Indeed, which is why I went for a nice, sliding fit rather than an interference fit but I take your point.
I fitted some to mine & ended up with a load of rattles inside the door that werenāt there before so took them off again.
Did you sand to fit, make sure the bolts could move in the slots for adjustment and progressively tighten the bolts with opening and shutting the doors in order to align??
I put a stubby aerial on mine straight away, along with my personalised plate - Job done
I like seeing different levels of modifications being done to this wonderful little roadster, be it the smallest changes like mine to more drastic ones⦠The common factor is we all love our MX-5ās
The mx5 is all things to all people! Iāve said this quite a few times over the years, on this and other forums. For me, itās just a great little 2 seater
in factory fresh guise, we have NA/NB\NC/ND, within each of those marques we can then see soft tops, PRHT & removable hard tops plus the RF. then we have varying āspecial editionsā plus a host of Mazda options (including colour choice). The aftermarket options are incredibly wide and diverse across all models, from cosmetic/performance/wheels/suspension etc, etc. Then there are competition cars, mostly starting off as standard cars that are modified to suit whichever type of motorsport they may compete in. The mind boggles at the almost infinite choices out there. Well done to everyone who maintains there car as it left the factory, to those who modify them to the limit, and everyone else in between! Letās also not forget the broad spread of owners, male/female, 17-80+ year olds, some younger still, learning about cars and getting their first mx5 ready for when they can legally take it on the road. Some older still, owners that still enjoy the experience. Whatās not to like?

Well said.

Well said Barrie. What I would add is that we all get on as one big happy family. Park a dealer fresh ND somewhere and if there is a heavily modified or rough around the edges NA nearby you will at least nod and wave but more likely chat for ages. Not something that happens in a lot of other car communities.
Hi Paul, this! Iāve been on many a ārunā with other enthusiasts, driving all sorts of 5ās, everyone seems to get along nicely.
Barrie
Absolutely 100% true. Canāt believe how welcoming everyoneās been, just because we all have one common interest. Itās a beautiful thing, just like a 5
I fitted some JBL 6x9s They are rated for 60w rms.
Very easy to get the door cards off on the MX5 NC but the OEM speakers have 2 pin plug that doesnāt fit aftermarket speakers so got the wire strippers out and the soldering iron.
Also this is probably why my windows have scratches on them, loads of ā ā ā ā (I guess the word C r A P needs to be censored?) stuck in the window channel.
Tried to remove the OEM backbox to fit my Cobalt but the bolts are very rusty and I donāt have ramps so couldnāt really get the leverage on the wrench.
