What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 1)

I used aftermarket cables intended for Fords to connect my speakers.
My soldering is rubbish.

Took my mx5 to Evowrap in Bromsgrove to tint my rear screen. I am really pleased with the results and would recommend these guys. This is the 3rd of my cars that they have tinted and the service and quality of on point.

I have loads of connectors but I prefer to solder, I’m not that great at it but it looked solid enough, time will tell.

What I should have done was solder the wire to the connector, I don’t like the crimp fittings, maybe I’ll alter it tomorrow.

yep early ford focus type connectors fit

Crimping is stronger and longer lasting than soldering if you use ratchet crimpers. I am a fan of soldering my self but crimping is stronger.

Fitted the Cobalt Delrin door bushes from Moss Europe. Had tried a pair of the 3D printed type but they caused the door to jam. Then gave it a good wash before taking SWMBO to get her jab.

Yes, the 3D printed ones are oversize and need to be sanded to get them to fit properly.
Are the Moss ones a good plug and play fit straight off then??

My Moss ones were plug and play

Yes the Moss ones were a straight fit but did come with detailed instructions with photos, showing what to do if they needed sanding down.

Took my car genie device out of the Lexus and put it in the MX-5 and it showed faults and low battery. Realised it needs calibrating for the different car, phoned AA, they put me on to car genie and it’s now running smoothly. I’ll get text warnings if there’s a fault or I need to charge the battery. Excellent!

I don’t usually put the MX-5 in the garage for winter, but due to lockdowns and the slight water ingress I treated to 3 months indoors and used the Vitara for my limited essential journeys.

On Tuesday, I liberated the MX-5 and have been surprised how many essential journeys I’d left incomplete, including a top down run to Toolstation which necessitated a diversion due to potholes and roadworks. It’s nice to have it back even if I have got to wash half the Sahara off it.

All the wheels off the ZSport today after new tyres a while back, good clean and get the gunk off which held the old stick on weights. Losing a few psi on one wheel every few weeks traced to a tiny fizz of a seep on inner rim so mobile fitter is coming back to re prep the wheel and reseal, something about possible lacquer peel on the inside of the wheel.

Lacquer peel on the inside sealing rim area of alloy wheels are known for this…
To be fair the tyre fitter should establish the condition of this area of the wheel and remedy it before fitting the tyre - Normally only takes a good wire brushing and good application of sealer to remedy this. I’d suggest keeping a good eye on the other wheels too for tyre pressure…

I have received a text message, purportedly from Royal Mail, saying my package is subject to a 2.99 delivery fee and I should visit Royal Mail Delivery Support to pay.
Actions will be taken if I don’t.
I am guessing this is a scam…
Apologies if this is in wrong section.

I think so
They would usually post a notice, seems logical hey.
Well that’s what they did when I worked for them.:+1: But even that’s open to scams now.:-1:

No reference to what package and the threat at the end are a bit of a giveaway but I do have a package pending (a pair of stainless door-striker plates) and probably most people do in the current shops-closed situation.
Thieving bar-stewards…

There’s a very similar DPD scam going around at the moment- fake e-mails either asking for money or for your details in order to process a refund on a product. Both my mum and a work colleague got one within days of each other so wouldn’t surprise me if there was a Royal Mail one too. Cyber fraud has gone through the roof since the start of Covid

Fitted smoked side repeaters. They came with chrome rings, which I thought kind of defeated the dark look, so I painted them black. Now I have to wait and see if they fail the MOT in May.

You removed the chrome, are you sure you own a MX5? I really dislike all the chrome stuff, looks cheap and nasty in my opinion.

How is the fitment on those side indicators?
I bought ebay ones and they had no washer with them so the fitment was useless.

Agree with you on the chrome! There are chrome inserts on the door handles of my NC Sport Tech, which I thought were aftermarket, but they’re apparently standard?

In other news, I’ve just realised I can fit my golf bats (minus the woods) in the boot. Result!
