What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

Today I attempted to temporarily fix the boot leak; lots more water is getting in now, via the seal that is under the deck-lid. Will have to wait and see if my fix works or not.
As soon as the weather allows, I’ll be pulling that seal off and either try to repair it or replace it.
Had to ditch the cover; it’s not fully waterproof and it causes bigger problems.

Also went for a quick 30 minutes spin and then changed the Alpine’s splash-screen:

I like F1s worth every penny, the downside is my Beamer has a useful puncture light but doesn’t tell you which wheel, you need a pressure gauge to even find which wheel is punctured and even when you know it’s down you can still drive quite normally and forget. It’s great for getting you home but when the drive home is an empty Welsh mountain road on a sunny afternoon….

Replaced the broken front spring and fitted a new rubber gaiter. Having failed to remove the top ball joint I discovered it was an un necessary step. By removing the top wishbone pivot bolts there is enough room to remove the coil spring/damper assembly. The ride height is now the same for both front wheels. Mazda Northampton are brilliant for parts. New spring ordered in the morning and ready for collection the next morning by 9 am. Used them as no one else had one in stock.

On Monday it is having the recall for the fuel line carried out by Mazda Northampton.

Prepped a pair of fibreglass doors, a few imperfections to fill and a couple of holes to cut before paint and decals :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Just picked up Moxie, i got a reversing camera fitted. Next is to replace the dash cam mirror with the wolfbox G900 dash cam mirror as I’m not happy with the quality of the one I have.

Well done sir, I need to be doing this on my rear calipers. Is this fairly simple for a ham fisted old f*rt to do?

Removed the sound tube thingy & replaced the throttle body to air box tube with a nice new silicon one ( I’m secretly hoping a nice smooth internal surface will improve air flow into the throttle body).

The vac take off on the NC3 is much bigger than earlier models, so I got a spare from the scrappy all worked out well.

Some Heath Robinson engineering in evidence here. Replaced the intake to the scuttle by sandwiching bit of plastic until I can fab up a plate. Same goes with the vac tube bracket, re used a bit of on of the cast off ones.

Dead simple, hardest part was getting up when I’d finished.

Depends whether the existing brake pins are corroded or not..

Mk1 BTW.

Not difficult on the NC either :+1:

Tyre inflation to 30psi by my gauge (Could be anything in truth, but “consistent”)

Did another oil change on the NC. Ordered Mobil 1 3000 FE but was delivered 3000 XE, so have used that since I’d already drained the old stuff. Both 5W-30.

Assuming there’s no issue with using the XE?

Edit: found Mobil super 3000 5w30 XE? - #12 by M_and_M - sure it’ll be fine.

Ordered bits for spring maintenance - oil, coolant, brake fluid.

And picked up a different exhaust to try :ok_hand:t3:

Nearly another snap!

I’ve some HEL braided front lines to go on as well, during my brake refresh. Plus a front caliper piston service kit :waving_hand:t3:

:see_no_evil_monkey:Snap indeed HEL also to match the fronts

Emptied a couple of litres of rainwater from the drip tray in the boot. Footwells still dry after recent sealant action… next real job is clean up and lube on the handbrake release, increasingly sticking lately. Laziness on my part!

Connected my Snowsky Echo mp3 player to the bluetooth
It wasn’t guaranteed to be the right channel but happy to say that it sounds superb and will connect from my pocket/rucksack or the little foam nest I made in the space next to charge sockets. As a review the Echo Mini is around 50 quid, plays all the formats including FLAC runs for 15 hours without charge and has a Random setting. Bit fiddly to navigate but once set you just need to press play and it shuffles through whatever is on the micro SD 10/10

Also went through my first weeks dash cam files, waste of time getting the best 2K picture available as it has rained every day and the camera is just above the wipers reach but when dry, street signs/reg numbers and faces are clear, my speed and gps is hardcoded with the date stamp so it is useable though I’ve had to turn the shock sensor off due to it being triggered by the B roads around here and the app is an absolute joke. Won’t connect unless you’re sat in the car so the intrusion alert feature won’t reach your phone two steps away. Road Angel dashcam review is: 0/10 avoid. Mine is only staying for now because it’s hardwired but I will replace it and give it away to someone I don’t like.
