What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

I was thinking of doing the same after i came across the 3D model.

Hi Mad_Malc and MarkDP,

I was thinking that the exhaust don’t extend beyond the end of the car so exhaust tips might look good!

Ofiaich

Fronts were easy enough. The rears I did the inner and outermost holes using some paperback books to get them both level then jacked the car up and took the wheels off.

Start with the drivers front as the tub is narrower than the passenger side once that’s lined up use the first flap as a template to drill the second one. I made pilot holes in the flaps and then pilots into the tubs.

Use something like PETG and make it as solid as you can. They don’t take long to print either.

I’ve gpt plenty of PETG

I made the mistake of making a cup holder with Pla when I first bought my printer and it kind of changed shape in the hot sun over the summer

Final chassis brace removed, powder coated and refitted. Think I’ve done enough to the underside now.

I made the wind deflector plugs from PETG, I don’t think I’ll make anything for the car from PLA unless it’s in a shaded cool area like the boot.

Washed it, again.

The exhaust tips I’ve seen dont really add much length and look like Halfords bolt ons (nothing wrong with them) no matter the cost. I’m going to wait until this box rots out before considering a new system.

Did you use anything special to polish them?

Autosol, this one Autosol Metal Polish Paste for Home, Bike, Boat and Car Cleaning, Alloy Wheel Cleaner, Rust Remover for Metal, All-Purpose Metal Cleaner 75ml Tube : Amazon.co.uk: Automotive

If you are really sad don’t forget to do the inside as well!!!

Well I’ve got it fitted, the full malian uel manifold, sports cat and race back box (already had the cat back fitted)…

Now it sounds bloody nice, got that subaru imprezza sound to it now, have to say the removal of the old standard manifold was a complete ball ache but once that was out it was all back together and running again inside 2 hours .

Must say im a happy chap

Bought myself a mk3 MX-5, 2009, sport tech with power retractable hardtop.

Adjusted the clutch and lubricated the clutch pedal bushes. Then gave it a spirited drive.

Sprayed the rear anti rollbar bush link nuts with penetrating oil ready for link replacement next weekend.

Lovely.
