Sometimes we all have a day that lives long in our memories, yesterday was that day for me. Humpback whale, dusky dolphins and fur seals. Have even spotted a few mx5’s on our travels.
Whenever someone mentions Bridgwater I think of this.
It’s the council steam roller my grandad drove in the late 1950’s and recently found and restored. He was based in North Staffordshire and was told to drive it to the repair depot - in Bridgwater. In the days before motorways it took a week (175 miles at 5-8 mph)) and he slept in a caravan he towed at the back. He got lost in Birmingham and asked a policeman the way, who pointed vaguely south and said “Follow that bus!”.
Slightly different spelling, but nice steamroller!
This one’s named after the canal. Which is in turn named after the 3rd Duke of Bridgewater
Going full circle, my grandad’s mother was a Brindley. She was related to James Brindley, one of the engineers who built the Bridgewater Canal.
Sorry about dropping the “e”. It’s a North Staffordshire thing, as there’s no “e” in the middle of Wedgwood.
Fabulous
