What is the spray that gets rid of screeching sound on belts? 🤔

i’ve just had a new belt put on (the one that runs the alternator and pump). when i’ve had a screeching sound on belts previously, as soon as you start the engine, a garage has sprayed some stuff on them and the noise went away. my new belt has just started making a screeching sound when you start the engine. does anyone know what the spray would have been? thanks

I use “Belt Slip”

Although if the new belt is noisy there could be an alignment issue on one of the pulleys or something else going on. Worth a visit back to the garage that fitted it

WD40 works too. I used to have it on a car yonks ago and found it did it more in cold weather so had a can on hand. Check the tension. If it’s a new belt of the right spec it must be the tension is out.

Someone posted on here recently about a noisy belt.
Iirc, it turned out that one of the pulleys was reassembled misaligned.
Classic symptom for a loose belt is shrieking with blipping and acceleration, which goes away as the non gripping pulley catches up

I have used a stick of chalk (as per school, for the blackboard) with the engine running simply touch each side of the belt briefly as it whirs around; you should hear sound stop instantly. Forget where I learnt that but it was about 30 years ago… when I was a youngster.
