What kind of bodykit is this?

Not a Mazda one I guess? Probably added to save painting the sills after they were done!

Shame, because the car looks great otherwise…

That body kit is awful.

Er, the bodykit would need painting, so fitting these to save painting welded sills makes no sense.

Looks like Mazdaspeec or Mazdaspeed-clone side skirts and bumper pieces.

Looking at the MOT history, the front chassis legs were well rotted, along with the sill. You wonder about the repair, because after it was welded, it still failed because they forgot to secure something properly on the suspension (I guess a ARB droplink).

Yep - another ‘mint’ NB that isn’t what it seems. I’ll add it to the ‘avoid’ list!

I would never consider buying any car without checking the MOT history; it’s very easy to do using any of the “apps” or directly via the DVLA website. Any advert where the registration plate is covered up by the dealer’s plate or by a cloth draped over it doesn’t get a second glance from me.

It’s my 1st port of call when I see a potential MX5. Usually to find it needs chasis rails & sills though!

Rusty cars are not necessarily beyond hope; it depends on price. All of them will rust. This particular example shows mileage is no indicator. It was probably a garage queen, with a dealer body kit, hiding a mounting heap of trouble. Its low mileage, and certainly was only occasionally used in its early years.

All NAs an NBs are old cars now. The newest NB is 17 years old. Back in 1995, my housemae brought himself a 1980 MGB-GT. He wasn’t fazed by the crusty wings, nor that the sills needed replacing. It was par for the course when buying a classic car.

The car to looki for is a NB that’s had its first MOT failure for rot, and which has scared off the owner. You’ll get it for a song. A car like that is better than one which is full of various bodges as poorer and poorer successive owners on dwindling budgets try and squeeze a car through a MOT.

It goes without saying the car in question is ridiculously priced. Its a dealer with a low miles car and full Mazda history. That’s how he’s pricing the car.

This is not a bad car, in your search. Not failed (yet) on rust, but its getting close. Low miles. VICS engine, not VVT, possibly some advantage in that. Covered very little miles in the last 10 years, so its likely not seen much winter use. Could do with better wheels, but the one wheel visible suggests the owner hasn’t been cheaping out on tyres (suggests its been looked after without throwing a ton of money at it). Right money
