I smashed a tyre in a pothole near me which only cost £40 to replace. I reported the pothole on the Staffs road app and it was repaired with 3 days. I put in a claim for £40 and the council put in the hands of a firm of solicitors based in Norfolk. They argued that the council had a policy of checking the roads every 3 months (laughable as potholes last a couple of winters around here before they are repaired) and so were not negligent. So instead of refunding my £40 they paid a solicitor £££ to fight it!
That sounds familiar. A similar thing happened to me years ago, the pothole was repaired two days later. With that in mind i reported all the pot holes locally and most were repaired.
I still do it today and just imagine if all of the MX-5 OC joined in !
There’s a dangerous pothole near my village on a minor road junction. It’s dangerous because it’s right where a motorcycle front wheel needs to be after turning the blind bend. I just tried to report it using the app only to be told that Nottinghamshire County Council are in the 2% of councils who won’t accept reports from individuals using it!
In our area they spray yellow paint around the edge of potholes but then take weeks to repair them. Presumably a pothole so marked but not repaired leaves them open to claims being made.
The equivalent to road tax here in Austria for my 2 litre ND RF will be €1019, based on HP and CO2 emissions (Motorbezogene Steuer). But at least we have less potholes per metre.
