yep the robbing baskets put it up a £5 a year , the classic car tax excempt was for cars built before 1972 they wont do it on newer as they will lose to much money! http://www.practicalclassics.co.uk/news.php?sid=543&page=1 a look at this link it explains it better
I have just had to fork out £175 for 12 months for my MK3. It
would have been 96.25 for six months.
Interestingly the official demand for money with menaces letter
talks about a tax disc. I always thought it was a ‘road fund licence’
when did it change.
Hi I have just got my notice in yesterday and I am to pay £118.00 for 6 mths and over 200 for a year I drive a 1.8 on a 05 plate so for me it will be 6mths.
agree its expensive for mx5 mines 21 years old i think any car that has done 25 years deserves free tax as they has payed enough i just do mine for 6 months my mate has mazda rx8 05 plate £400 a year he pays
Just got mine £118 for 6 months. No wonder there are so many cars on our roads not taxed. Its only a matter of time before it will be cheaper to pay the fine rather than the tax.
On the subject of potholes, just found this site for people who have damaged their car because of potholes and want to claim damages, if they’re patient enough! www.potholes.co.uk
Also directgov.uk has got a page for reporting potholes, maybe if everyone on the forum and in the club flooded them with complaints and pothole sightings they could probably get them all sorted by 2040! Either that or they would just double mazda tax to pay their bonuses…,( i mean repair them). If it gets any worse on the roads i might convert my roadster into a monster truck but then again they’ll probably find a way to charge me more road tax for rims over 40 inches, just a bunch of conning, money grabbing, office jockey tarts.
They’ll always find a way to tax the things we get pleasure out of and then damage the crap out of them on ther sh**ty roads.
Reading back at the rising cost of car tax then, almost 12 years ago.
I’m glad one of my cars only costs £30 annually, looking at it from another perspective, it’s a nice fish n chip supper for two now at some establishments
Your link is no longer available as its almost certainly out of date. The criteria is now on a rolling 40 years since manufacture or first registration so for example cars first registered in 1982 are now exempt from VED. They do have to be registered but there is no payment required and the don’t need an MOT but must obviously be insured.
My 1997 MK1 1.6 cost £295 to tax for 12 months back in April.
I always buy 12 months tax and then declare sorn at the end of November. I get full months tax back pro-rata. Buying 6 months tax costs extra because of their admin fee.
My 1998 Jimny 1.3 cost £180 because it is below 1549cc. Swings and roundabouts though as for some reason costs double the price of the MX5 to insure.
