Hi folks,
I plan to replace the rear subframe on our MX-5 as it is very badly rusted. I have sourced a reconditioned unit complete with the chassis bars. The plan is to renew all the bushes and bolts on the suspension arms at the same time. The reason for the post is to see if anyone is aware of any ‘gotcha’ items that I need to be on the lookout for when I get into this. I assume someone out there must have done this job previously so any feedback on challenging aspects would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Getting the PPF off the diff can be awkward. Reseach that or leave it connected and detatch it at the gearbox end.
Hi,
Try having a look at the MEV Exocet forum as there are loads of photos and posts about removing the subframes.
Colin
i removed the rear subframe on mine and didnt find any problems with it
there are 6 subframe mounts if i remember correctly, 2 nuts for each shock mount and a solid brake pipe that is clipped near the top of the subframe
i left the diff and ppf attached and lowered it out in a trolly jack
this was done so i could fit a torsen diff, new shocks and polybushed wishbones
Thanks. It’s doesn’t look like too big a job, especially with access to full workshop facilities. Main concern is running into something unexpected and having the car stuck on one of my mate’s lifts for a few days while I source unexpected parts. So far sounds about what I would expect.
Just make sure you have a grinder and some spare nuts and bolts.
