What Tyres on a 1999 MX5 1.8

Having recently acquired the above what tyres would the forum recommend?

Goodyear Eagle F1’s have been discontinued and I can’t find a stockist/tyre fitting company that do Toyo T1R’s.

The car is used 365 days a year. Currently, it has Michelins on the front and Nanchangs on the rear, and in slippy, wet conditions I have little grip on corners and roundabouts.

Help!!!

What size of wheel do you have? 14"? 15"? If you’re looking for 14", I don’t think the T1R was ever made in that size.If I had a penny for every time I’ve been told Goodyear Eagle F1’s have been discontinued, I’d have… err… 9p! Goodyear’s website still lists them as current. Even the 14" GS-D2 version.

I’m looking for a 195/50/15 tyre.

Is the “discontinued” story just an excuse then?

Mixed makers tyres on the same car? I cannot believe it, that’s asking for trouble.

Its only really a problem if you mix radial with cross-ply. No problem if you have the same model as a pair on each axle.

Hi

Never used them myself, but Camskill seems to be very popular…

they have your size in the T1-R for £45/corner fitted.  Just pick your local fitter.

They dont have the Eagle in that size either.

GSD3s listed here still:

Thats a fitted price, on your drive/workplace/local supermarket.

I found them to be excellent; they correctly torqued the wheel nuts and adjusted the pressure without prompting.

The T1-S is an old tyre; T1-R (which I dislike) is taking over.

Thanks guys.

you’re very welcome

This place is alright if you live near manchester (Macclesfield) they are doing t1-r for £57 the pair and free fitting if you call in (dont think this includes balancing) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/195-50-15-TOYO-PROXES-T1R-PAIR-OF-TYRES-1955015_W0QQitemZ120344856416QQihZ002QQcategoryZ9891QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

Long time lurker finally posting. SAZ9961 you are a star[:)]. I’ve been trying to get some Eagle F1 GSD3’s for my wifes 2004 Arctic for weeks, keep getting told they have been discontinued and no one has any stock. Just ordered 2 through etyres.

I ordered 2 from etyres yesterday but got a phone call this afternoon saying that they have been trying all their suppliers and can’t get hold of them.

I’ve got Bridgestone Turanza’s on mine. No probs. Before that Continental Sports. They were good too.
