What wheels fit ?

Can anyone tell me the if the wheel fixing centres match any other cars ?
I want to buy a cheap wheel just for the purpose of removing each one in turn t give them a good clean, I know I can prop in up on axle stands, or use the space saver, but for me its easier to use another wheel.
Whats a match ?

4-stud Honda, Suzuki, Rover-Honda, VW, BMW, Vauxhall will fit. Some are more suitable for road use than others, but if you are just using them to prop a car up, they’ll work.

miata.net has a long list of makes and models; mostly American market focused, but you get the picture.

I have Honda, Toyota, BMW and (not on the list but they fit anyway) S2 Lotus Elise and Exige wheels fitted to my MX5. Not all at the same time though, obviously.

You can take advantage of my very reasonable wheel hire rates if you happen to be a regular at the Eastern Region meets.

Thanks Captain, that’s a pretty comprehensive list.

Unfortunately im down on the south coast. But thanks for the offer

Additionally a “friend of friend” has a MK3 and apparently they do
not even have a spacesaver wheel, would a MK1, Mk2 fit his Mk3 ?

Thank again for the good information.

Unfortunately not. The Mk3 uses a 5-bolt pattern.

5x144.3 I have some of these kicking around too.

Although some of those use small spigot diameters, so aim to get aftermarket wheels as they tend to have huge spigot diamters and use spaces to size them correctly.

Spigot rings are:
1 - not really neccesary.
2 - cheap enough that you might as well fit them anyway.

Offset is also an issue. Some people insist that standard offset is the only safe choice, some people decide to fit radically different offsets.

What the hell, lets add more information, it can’t hurt:

Wheel interchangeability can be very confusing.

I tried a Mitsubishi FTO space saver on my MK 3 Icon (6.5J x 16 wheels). It fitted inside the boot, had the correct offset, centre hole size, and 5 x 114 stud PCD.

It looked the ideal solution but unfortunately it fouled the brake caliper.

I understand all the issues but I would prefer to have a space saver if possible. Does anyone know which (if any) space saver will fit a Mk 3 wheel?

Hi

How much did it foul the caliper by? Is it small enough that you could use a wheel spacer and still get adequate engagement of the wheel nuts/bolts (don’t know which it is on a Mk3).

Alan

Thought of that. To simulate a wheel spacer I tried putting half inch thick nuts on the studs first, behind the wheel, and still it fouled. Anything more would leave insufficient thread on the studs. So a wheel spacer wouldn’t work.

Pity as there seem to be several Mitsubishi FTO space saver wheels on ebay.
