Wheel arch & sill rust. Any recommended repairer in Essex

My 2001 Mk2.5 has rust just starting to bubble through on rear arches and rear of sills. Can anyone recommend a body shop in Essex area who will do a good job of repairing this?

Thanks.

Chris

The Mk2.5 has problems with corrossion of the front chassis rails. Before thinking about getting the back end done which will be around £900 to do both sides. The undertay on the engine must be removed and the chassis rails in the engine bay checked, not just looked at but the undertray removed and properly checked as this may mean the car is scrap.

Hope you find no problems there.

In August 2012 I took my 2003 Nevada to W Hart Cars at Swallows Cross Farm near Doddinghurst, CM15 0ST, for repairs to both sills and arches

Hart’s has been going since 1976 and has done work on other cars of mine in the past.

Both sides came in at around £480 to cut out corrosion, inspect interior, and weld in new metal. The finish is very good - it is effectively a one-person show and a lot of care seems to have been taken. Phone 01277 352692 or email whartcars@hotmail.com

He has worked on other MX5s in the past, apparently.

You might want to try Weld Mobile in Boscombe Road Southend on Sea (01702 467477). I had received quotes varying from £150 to £300 per side when my local MoT garage recommended these guys. The chap there (Peter) is an ex MX5 owner and knew the problem very well. He repaired the damage with a cut in piece of plate and finished it along the original lines of the sill, then some paint and underseal to finish it off - an excellent job, perhaps not concours but the repair more than holds up to inspection. The charge? Just £60! I will be back soon to get the other side done.
