Wheel selection for MK1 fitment

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __mk11.8 eunos
  2. I’m based near: __stirling
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __wheel fitment

Looking for a new set of wheels and can’t decide on what to get for the MK1

Looking at enkai rpf1s and can’t decide whether to look at 15x7 or 15x8

The 15x7 is et37 and I think this is a bit safe and will be quite far in the arches
The 15x8 is et28 but can’t figure out if that’s going to be too wide or not withought butchering my arches, I’d like them to be as flush with the wheel arch as possible (I’d rather be too far in than too far out and make up the difference with spacers)

Does anyone have any pics of 15x8 et28 fitted?
I have a set of crappy xxrs on the front just now and they’re 8.25j et0 and they’re waaay too wide and I hate them, they won’t even entertain fitment on the back they’re about 3 inches last the arch on the rear :joy:

I hate all rotas and bolas etc and my main pics are down to either rpf1s or buy a second set of Oz ultralageras, both lightweight and excellent wheels

Anyone got any pictures of anything around the same size?

Ah that looks absolutely ideal

As you can see the xxrs are crap, 0 offset and the extra .25" make a big difference

I see bofi had the rpf1s in gold in that spec at 305 a wheel with the 5bhp code still working, that Goodwin seems to be out of stock but a lot cheaper, I’m guessing from the states and still to be hammered with shipping handling/import tax

Any other good wheels around that size and fitment? Te37’s were an option and I already have a set of Oz ultralageras but they’ve got the track stickies for the clio on them, struggling to think of other affordable lightweights in similar fitment

Gold looks great, don’t think bofi do bronze which is a shame

I did see these blue ones which were different! Not for me but can imagine they’ll look nice on something specific, vortex blue I think it was called

I don’t know if this helps or not but you could have a look at willtheyfit.com
I use it a fair bit when I’m window shopping for alloys I can’t afford :joy:
My MK1 MX5 has the original wheels on it (tyre size is 185/60R14 and wheel size is 14x6 ET45) and based on my wheels and measurements, I think a wheel which pokes out 40mm more than the stock wheels will stick out the arches (but maybe give it a quick measure on your car because I may very like be wrong!)
Hope this helps!

Have decided on rpf1s in gold 15x8 et28(iirc) just waiting on bofi having a good sale on, there’s a 7% sale on just now but I’m rolling the dice waiting on a better discount code as I don’t need the wheels immediately

Did these wheels end up fitting or would the 15x7 have been a better shout?
