Wheel size for a Mk3

Hi folks,

Apologies in advance to the mods, and the RTFMs Embarassed, but I’ve looked for this info and can’t seem to find it.

Can anyone tell me what the wheel size is for my 2006 Mk3 MX5 2.0?

My tyre size is 205/50 R16 (87V)

Is that a 6.0J (x16)? If so, what’s the offset? Is it 40?

I’m investigating options for a spare set of wheels plus winter tyres at the moment… it is August after all

Cheers,

Dave

Have a look on the inside of your wheel Dave and it may say size and offset,

If it is a standard Mazda wheel, it should be 16" 6.5J ET55 5 x 114.

You can generally drop to ET45 without issue.

The overall diameter on both the standard 17" and 16" is the same.

Your insurers will generally be happier if you buy Mazda OEM wheels (new* or secondhand).  They’re not supposed to charge for winter tyres but they will probably charge for aftermarket wheels.

Fully painted alloys are fine in winter as long as you don’t kerb them and let the salty water at the metal.

Or you could try and find some of the 16" Mazda steelies that base models were once supplied with.

*not all that expensive compared to new aftermarket ones
