I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: _wheel size
Hi all, I have a 2.0 sport 2006, and I have Eibach 30mm lowering springs on the original Bilsteins, I am looking for some reasonably priced 8" wheels for track day use. I have come across these, ‘Mauritius Black polish 8.0 x 17 (LK 5/114, OS 45)’, and am wondering about the fitment. will they fit the arches with 225 x 45 tyres??
And if anyone can recommend cheaper wheels, please let me know!
Thanks in anticipation._
Any reason you particularly want 8j wheels for the track ? I run OEM 7j/215 with a mildly modified NC1 and don’t personally feel wheel/tyre width is holding me back…
Thanks Reggie, but yes. I am getting my car progressively modified BBR style and am lookin to use my OEM 17x7j wheels as wets and getting a set of 17x8s with ‘Track day’ tyres for dry.
If you are spending decent money on power I would do the same on the wheels and tyres as they are the best mod you can buy to start with. If you are looking for serious track wheels get something like Enkei rpf01 as you will want lighter wheels ideally.
There are some fitment charts flying around to confirm but 45mm offset is common choice I believe.
What power are you planning on ? and What width tyres as they must be big for 8 inch.
Thanks RalleZ, £120 each.
I have, so far, got BBR 4 to1 catless header with BBR centre section. Gives me abit more power, especially low end torque. The track I use is small with short straights so the torque is important. I will be going back to BBR for the cams and hopefully the throttle body kit.
As regards the tyre width, 225 I think
That sounds exciting. Nice. You can put 225 on your oe wheels. Buying another set secondhand would be cheaper. You certainly won’t need 8 inch for 225, maybe 7.5. Will probably save you some money and weight as well
Pretty sure an 8j with 225s will fit.
Tho i think anything wider will require fender rolling.
There is quite alot of videos on youtube about wheel sizes for the nc.
Several of them mention width.
Mx5 parts sell a 17 by 7.5j set for under 500.
Im toying with the idea of buying a set, tho not for some time yet. As im currently saving for the bbr exhaust and a remap.
On race MX-5’s, so Super Cup cars and the like, the wheel width is 7.5 with a 45 offset and 215 tyres.
I suspect 225 will over tyre the car, cause drag you don’t need and the extra width will leave you prone to rubbing.
