I’ve recently purchased a 2006 MX5 which has 16’ wheels. For cosmetic reasons I’m considering exchanging to 17’ wheels. If so will performance or handling be Compromised ?
Go for it 17" wheels totally transform the looks of the car and they will be the wheels of your choice.
Performance= no change.
Handling= you may find it a little harsher ride as you will have less of a balloon between wheel and road surface.
The usual plan would be to end up with a similar overall diameter for the wheels by fitting lower profile tyres thus having more wheel and less tyre within that diameter.
The tyres and wheels would probably be wider than your existing set up.
Overall track would probably end up a little wider too.
I have 17" wheels on my Miyako and I find the ride perfectly acceptable
