Hi All
Your help & guidance is required ,
I have a 1996 1.8 Mk1 running on the original 15 x 7 Alloy’s with 195 / 50 / R15 tyres , not sure on ETF but it may be 35 ( VR LTD Enki’s ) , but would be the original factory standard , the car’s ride height slightly lower than average , but the lowering is quite moderate .
My local garage has a smart set of alloy wheels he said came of a MK2 …They are 15 x 8 alloys running on 205 / 45/ r15 tyres ETF 35
Simple question , should they fit without rubbing / causing problems ?
How might the driving characteristics change ?
Also Spigot rings and nuts to fit MX5 included…what exactly is the purpose of spigot rings , should I fit them
Any further advice appreciated-
Thanks in advance -
Andrew
There will be zero rubbing issues, in fact it is a very common update size.
The tyres they have fitted are smaller in overall diameter than what you currently have. You would have no issues in fitting 195 50 15 tyres either.
Ride wise you are likely to feel high amplitude road bumps a little more, but nothing that should upset you greatly. Driving experience wise and road holding will very much depend on what tyres they are and if there is a difference to what you are use to will depend on what you currently have.
Assuming the alloys are suitable for a 5, and so have the conical seat mounting holes you do need any spigot rings.
Spigot rings are used to centre a wheel, however the studs and very much the seating action of the nuts does this. On wheels that use bolts rather than studs they useful but they are not required on your car and they certainly do not take the weight of the car as some would suggest.
