When did you do it last?

Well Mrs E’s away staying with her family in York for the weekend so I did something this morning I haven’t done for a very long time…no not that!

I jumped in a - if you don’t mind me saying - rather shiny Betsy and went for a spin…just for the sake of it! 3 hours later (nearly all with the roof down) and I’m now beaming from ear to ear.  Been up and down Woss bank, Sutton Bank (the twin pipes bouncing off the stone cliff like a symphony) and even took a couple - one at a time of course - up and down past the white horse, I’d stopped in the car park to take a pic and they asked what sort of car it was!!!

I’d forgotten why I had spent so long under the car this spring putting on new bouncy bits and bushes and stripping all the rust, prepping and waxoiling all her under-bits…well I’ve just been thoughally rewarded for all the effort.

Hope you all get the chance of a spring spin this weekend…

Nice to have a drive for the sake of it sometimes isn’t it?

We had some good weather last weekend and I had a bit of a blast. I am working in London at the moment so my car spends all week on the drive whilst I sit on the floor of an intercity train [:(]

BTW, What is the round red thing I can see in your rad grille? Is it an induction pipe?

Certainly is.

I was aware that, having invested in a K&N Typhoon, all the engine was breathing was hot air as it sits right next to the SS header (which looks far too nice to wrap in heat tape).

30 quid later, problem solved…not sure it makes any difference but it can’t hurt and it looks ok…I think!

It’s for a caterham I think, got it from Car Builder Solutions…I spend far too much time on their webpage!!!

 Better pic…

Condolences on the commute, I’m currently doing N. Yorks to Bedfordshire every Monday and Friday. Thank God most of the roadworks on the A1 are finished! The only thing that keeps me awake is playing ‘spot the 5’

Pipe looks good. I need to get something similar rigged up. I did have a length of metal flexible duct routed down past the manifold to under the car, I ripped it out as it look pony!

I have noticed the difference as my filter is now breathing air from around the toasty manifold.

Yep, it looks ok, all arrived pre-assembled. I just had to remove the grille (took bloody ages as all the bolts had rusted solid) and then just jigsawed out a hole. The pipe runs under the radiator, between it and the plastic undertray and then is simply zip-tied to anything that looks like it doesn’t move!  It has to be simple for me, I’m better at breaking/losing things than I am making them…you should have seen Mrs E’s face when I said I was buying my car “as a project”!!![:S]

If your planning on going I’ll see you at the Spring Rally, you can have a gander yourself?

Great website. Just ordered this:

http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/cold-air-ram-ducts-kit-45mm-ram45-1164-p.asp

Should solve the problem, any tips on how to route the pipe?

-Sorry, you must have been posting at the same time. Just seen your tip on the route for the pipe, thanks!

Thats the badger!!!

That website is a great find!

Looks like you could almost build a whole car from the bits on there.

Thanks for your help, sorry to go off topic a bit!

Paul.

Funny you should say that, a friend of mine told me about CBS, and he did actually build a car from their bits, albeit the seven chassis came from caterham.

That said, he fixes the helicopters that I break so is far more technically minded!

Nice car[:)]

Ben.

We quite often “do it” as you put it…Just decide to jump in & drive & see where we end up. Thank god for sat nav or would never find way home again lol

Nice to find interesting backdrops for taking pictures. That`s a fab pic with the horse behind you. We have a chalk Lion nearby at Whipsnade but not sure where i would need to be to get the car & lion in same shot.

Any ideas local peeps?

Could always cheat & photoshop it [;)]

Cheers Benny, if I’m honest that is her ‘better’ side!

Dave, you got me thinking, maybe we could suggest that next years calendar features a car from each(ish) area with a local landmark in the background…or has this already been done maybe?

This morning! Woke up at 6am, saw it was sunny, threw on jeans and sweatshirt and got Elphie out on the road. Got back two hours later and went back to bed content. So nice to be out with no traffic around, though obviously I still observed the speed limit at all times [A]

You can always buy a left headlight cover that has a grill in, I have one fitted on my supercharged MK1 and it shovels cold air in.

Hedge,

I looked into the pop-up cover replacement but some numpty has resprayed my car (before I belonged to her) with a god-only knows what shade of red…as I found out when I touched up the sills. Not wanting to respray a new headlight an obvious different shade of red I opted for a ram-air type inlet, Baftacat pm’d me yesterday to say he’s just fitted one too. Not everyones cup of tea maybe but, bombing up and down the A1 last week to Beds and back, I noticed the engine does seem to pull a little more cleanly. Seeing as I haven’t done anything else to it I can only assume it’s because betsy is now breathing more easily?

I guess any clean, fresh, cool air to the filter will help…

Took the car to work the other day, just to have the fun of the top down driving up the coast road.

Excellent !

I fitted a cold feed pipe, thanks to Peleton for finding Car Builder Supplies, £25 with pipe and 2 ali flanges and jubilee clips. Fitted now:

The pipe route is a bit long and convoluted but having the cold air makes a big difference! Shame the hood crushes the pipe slightly when it shuts, might try to source a slightly smaller pipe…

BRAVO SIR!!!

Lookin’ gooooood!
