Hi guys,
I have a MK2 1999 Sport in red, love it, but the previous owner had taken then number plate off and put it in the windscreen inside the car… I can’t stand it!
I don’t want to go back to the original plate holder as I think they don’t look so good.
Does anyone know where I can get some decent stick on number plates? Looked everywhere and can only seem to find cheap no road legal ones!!
I don’t think there is such thing a a legal stick on plates. There is no way a stick on plate can pass “resistance to bending” and “resistance to impact” tests that are a requirement. You might see cars with a stick on plate, and assume they are legal. Of course, nothing is ever said at a MOT. I went 6 years with a rear plate, blissfully unware. I had a 1991 MX5 in Northern Ireland, that was registered in 1997. It had a rear plate that was legal for 1997, that the first UK owner fitted. I changed to a 1996 MX5, which was registered in 2000, and transferred over the plate in 2005. I thought I’d save a bit of money by literally taking the plate off one car and putting it another. Went through MOTs, no issue. Until one mid-week 6pm commute, in Watford, and the blue lights came on behind me. The 1997-issued plate was illegal for my 2000-registered car (font was too thick). If it had been on a 1997 registered car, it was fine. But not on a later car. Fixed notice penalty.
