Hi. I’m new to the MX5 world but in the part I’ve found it priceless to be able to diagnose faults, re-code keys, turn off error codes etc on my Fords, Fiat and VW vehicles.
What software do I need for the Mazda?
Where can I get it?
What OBD2 to PC cable do I need? Elm?
Many thanks
No software involved, you just need an OBD2 code reader (Amazon) If you want to read ABS codes, and others not directly readable with a cheap code reader, make sure you get a better (higher priced) reader. The PCM (ECU to you) is not programable, so you are stuck with default settings except for a few driving parameters, which are set by the way you normally drive the car. If you disconnect the battery at any time, these will reset to ‘Get you home’ settings, but a good twenty minute drive will rest them back to your own settings.
‘PCM’ = Power train control module.
Most modern cars can be read by a good code reader, also no software involved. Mk 3’s appear to have a semi programable PCM, but I don’t have one, so welcome to Mk2.5 ownership!
