I’ve just realised that I don’t have any tyre sealant in the boot! Is there a recommended brand to carry (17” tyres)?
A couple of tins of TyreWeld.
i have a tin of tyre weld and the OEM (tyre slime) kit that came with the car
Don’t forget…the OE slime stuff goes out of date and needs replaced after (I think) four years. Which is why TyreWeld is the favoured gu due to the ridiculous cost of the oe gu.
It’s all ■■■■ so doesn’t matter which make !
yeah, I’m sure my OEM slime is out of date which is why I got the Tyreweld.
however, I will be getting a new bottle of slime for the OEM kit in the very near future.
as I’m told the slime will work on bigger punctures( larger nails n screws), unlike the Tyreweld, which only works on pinholes and slow punctures.
+1 for the self pressurised Holts Tyre Weld and while it also has a use-by date, the life is longer than the Mazda goo.
I also added a puncture repair kit (tools and plugs) and vulcanising glue tubes to both cars.
However the ones I have, which are good and strong almost the same as used by tyre fitters, no longer seem to be available, thus no links to recommend, and much of what seems still on sale looks to be fragile and of lesser quality. So buy with care.
In addition.
I put GOOP in each tyre (as coming from a motorcycle).
Carry a Tyre Stop and Go Kit.
Halfords Tyre Weld.
The Mazda Kit.
I will then give up if none of that should work!
Aldi/Lidl tyre weld. Once used and in the tyre the tyre will be scrap anyway (I’ve not come across any tyre places that will repair them after a tyreweld type product has been used) so just the cheapest possible every time. It got me home after I picked up a self tapper somewhere.
Replace unused tins every couple of years just in case they go bad with time.
The tyre is not scrap using the likes of TyreWeld. The fitters are just too lazy to wash the tyre out and that old nugget is their standard excuse.
I have used Crafty Plugger with success three or four times (as a permanent repair) on a high power car, including on a trackday tyre. (Tin hat now on in anticipation of backlash for suggesting that it was safe as a permanent high speed solution). Not cheap at £20, but it worked for me.
I have also used Slime tyre plugger which is cheaper at between £5 and £8 depending where you buy, but have had limited success two; out of three worked first time.
Personally I prefer these kits to the “through the valve liquid” types as you know the damage you are repairing and can make a judgement call on whether it is safe or not, where as the other type can unknowingly seal a hole when there is structural damage and can leave an object embedded in the tyre to cause further damage.
That said, I have had to remove wheels to fix punctures, so need tools, jack etc. A compressed tin of tyre weld might be a god send at the side of a busy road in the dark.
The AA is my answer.
If you use tyre weld on a tyre then the tyre if a write off anyway. In my Surrey/Sussex area pot holes are the issue and they split the tyre and weld will not be any good anyway. (I have the book and video ).
I bought a space saver for my NC and would call the AA rather than mess about putting it on myself in the middle of a road/motorway.
Your call if you use tyre weld or not but it’s not for me.

question!
my MX5 NC2 Does Not have a spare wheel!
So Why is there a jack in the boot!
i mean seriously, come on man!
■■■
no wheel but has wheel jack??
So you can take the wheel off to repair the puncture.
true, but there is a pack of tyre slime in the boot so i can seal a puncture without taking the wheel off anyway!
the whole thing just seems a little comical, if you get what I mean.
If you jack it up you can rotate the wheel and inspect it properly. To see if it’s a screw/nail or whether other damage has occurred.
Then repair properly (i.e. get you home/to a garage) with goop, sealant, tyre plug. With the weight off the tyre it will give you a better fighting chance. Or you can take the wheel off which would be my preferred option.
Mine never came with a jack, but I bought one for the above reasons.
mine has a little cubby hole for the jack with a screw to fix it securely to the inner rear wing.
Tesco often have Holts on sale for £3.50, have done for many years.
Check the can size also…
None, but a space saver wheel. I’ve never know a successful repair using tyreweld goop.
