Hello all,
Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on wind deflectors for Mk1 without any form of style bars?
I have got a couple of possibilities but ultimately want a deflector that does the best job of “deflecting the wind”!
I saw this one on ebay which is an original one with the mesh cargo net: click here
Or I could go for a standard mesh type one from here: click here
Which one will look best and do the job best? If I choose the mesh one which version is recommended? The V style or R style?
Cheers
Hi your 1st link is a original mk2 but it will fit the mk1 looks good but short the mesh ones 2nd link are very good but can obstruct your rear vision i had a original but now have a R type cheers Martin
Thanks Martin,
I think I am heading more toward getting a mesh one. t looks like tuning evolution do not have stock of the Rtype at the moment. I know MX5parts do a couple but they are over £100 before delivery which seems to be quite expensive for what they are.
PS - IF you are based in Reading (just down the road from me), do you do any of the local meets? If so which?
Cheers
Gary
Hi Gary i bought mine u-shape from tuning evolution i can recommend them paid with paypal only took 3 days to come delivered by parcelforce, have they got the v-type i think this will look great on your car i have a roll bar with mine the u-shape one from mx5parts,the same as the tuning evolution one check out the difference in price.I have not gone to any local meets maybe we can start our own good luck Martin
Hi, I have a Mk2 which came with the standard windblocker as your first item. It looked good but didn’t really do the job as it sits too low. Prior to my icon I had a Mk 1 in which I fitted one of http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info.php/products_id/137 . Brilliant windblocker although as said above it hampers rear view (with it being mesh you do get some view though) but who’s bothered whats behind? Anyway when I sold the MK1 I removed the mesh windblocker and it’s now fitted to my mk2 and a cupboard. I am pretty shocked at the price of the mesh blocker now but it does do a good job. I picked mine up 2nd hand for £40. May be worth scouring ebay or putting a wanted ad in STHT or on this site
Thanks for the replies.
If I went down the route of getting style bars added I could get the perspex wind deflector included. I have seen some on Mx5Parts click here for link.
Does anyone have any experience with this type of wind deflector? Does it still do a good job even though it does not extend past the seat headrests?
Cheers

Hi Hedge if you pay by paypal then its fine all tuning evolution has then is your delivery address i have bought from them no problem, only took 3 days to come deliverd by parcelforce very good quality and a great price cheers Martin
Hi Martin, whats the quality like? Will it fit my car you think? I have a 4 point roll cage fitted with a bar going behind the seats about 3inches off the rear parcel shelf floor. Cheers.
Hi i think it will fit with your roll bar but it might not fold down the quality is great and well worth the money cheers Martin
Just a quick update…
I have decided to buy these Griffin style bars that come with a clear perspex wind deflector - see link to item here.
I receievd them this morning and it all looks great. I will try and get them fitted this weekend and upload a picture for you all to see. I think this solution is great value and will look great.
Gary, I’ll be very interested to read about how you find that style bar (quality, ease of fitting, solidity & lack of rattles once fitted) - it’s the exact one that I’m thinking about going for.
Once I get it all fitted I will let you know.
Here are a couple of pictures of the style bars and wind deflector fitted. Very easy to install. All I had to do was unbolt the seatbelts, rearrange the spacers and add the style bars. Then tighten up the bolts again. Simple.
The only thing that I have found is that the white velcro that holds the clear perspex in place is not that sticky so I may change it for some stronger stuff later. I can see that when I choose to remove the perspex to get the wind in my hair a bit more… the velcro might come off the completely. This is not a big problem though. Very high quality bars and perspex.
Hi I’ve just recently bought a 1.8 eunos MK1 but it has the reinforcing bar running between the seat belt towers for extra crash protection. Does anyone know if the standard Mazda wind blocker (as shown in the first link) fits these cars as it looks like it won’t?
Any advice much appriciated.
Thanks
Hi & welcome! As long as you can get at the little bolts on the seat belt towers where the windblocker fastens to it should be ok. I have a standard V-shape one fitted to mine and it has a full roll cage fitted with bracing bar behind the seats and it went on no bother. It might not fold flat as it would on one without a brace bar but who cares, you should have the top down more than up! Enjoy the car!
Cheers Hedge, thanks for the advice
