Which windscreen wipers

Hi all may seem a stupid question  my wipers need replacing do I spend more on orginal wipers or go for after market brands which would you recommend is bosch good there is a few other makes Mx5 parts has both Oem and after market don’t want to put on cheaper if they will not last but a difference £5.00 to £20 per wiper is a lot if there is not much difference what is your thoughts please cheers Richy .

Hi Richy  I’ve had various qualities and paid way more for some and a lot less for other blades? TBH, at the price ranges you’ve mentioned, you could put new ones on each year for MOT time and not be out of pocket in 4 years? Currently I have ASDA’s finest at £10 a pair and they work? I’m also using RAINEX glass cleaner and on the drive to and from Goodwood  ( 100+ miles going and 50 ish miles coming back in the rain from a 650 mile round trip) where I modified to a single wiper (22") I actually barely used the wiper? For me, unless you really wanted OEM blades I’d just get whatever is handy? I found the aero blades didn’t do a brilliant job but the good old fashioned style are fine?

I have used Bosch for several years with no problems, would buy them again

I’ve tried most mainstream brands over the years and the ones that always work best are from the Valeo range. I also feel that if the car hasn’t come with the blade style wipers from the factory, the aftermarket ones are not terribly good.

Sorry I can’t help you as I never use mine as it only sees water from a hose pipe.

It;s the RainX that makes the difference.

I’ve got the cheaper version of the standard wipers from Mx5parts, they work fine.

If you use genuine Mazda wipers you don’t need Rain-X. I like to be able to see where I’m going in heavy rain and regard wipers as a safety item, just like tyres. If the genuine item is only 5% better than say, Bosch, then it’s money well spent.

If you’ve still got the factory fitted blades, I think you can do a lot worse than fit new genuine Mazda rubbers to those.

As has been mentioned previously, I think the curve in the NC windscreen means that the aerotwin/blade style blades aren’t the best option.
Last October I put on a set of conventional Bosch items from this ebay seller. The car is a daily driver and they continue to work as expected.

I personally believe a lot of wiper issues, have a lot to do with the type of driving you do.

Lots of high mileage motorway and the blades get contaminated with oil and diesel, rendering them useless after a year.

Luckily for me, we sell cheap after market wiper blades, I can get them for less that £1.00 per side.

Chuck cheap ones on and change them in 12 months.

Having once paid £40 for a set at a Honda dealer, I now use wiperblades.co.uk .

The last few times I have bought the hybrid type, either Trico as linked above for the NC, or Denso.  They articulate better on curved glass than the flat type, have the aerofoil shape built in, and are neater than the coathanger type.

I don’t know about the NC, but the ND comes with hybrid type from new anyway.

I’ve also used wiperblades.co.uk for the last couple of years and find they offer good service choice and competitive prices. I would recommend them.

Here’s a thought, can wiper arms be retro fitted from the ND onto the NC ?

If so, you could then have the blade type wipers some owners desire.

Hi all,

Well for me not doing many miles per year and so the rubbers do not actually wear out the thing that tells me they need replacing is when they screech
across the windscreen. Perhaps due to baking in the sun.I fitted new Bosch in March for the year ahead (also MOT time), well they do work out about half the price of genuine Mazda (give or take) but after only 2 months they screech. Thinking Bosch are a false economy.

I would be interested to know what the answer to this is too.

To the OP I asked the same question on here and was directed to the Denso Wipers on ECP, they’re nice and slim and work perfectly, about £15 per set IIRC.

Hello all firstly thanks to all advice etc on this thread , I eventually got a pair on Amazon Bosch blades with spoiler on £5.35 each plus p&p not too bad I reviewed this blade it got 5stars anyway see how they do , last etc  anyway came in handy on a Tyne tees evening run last night we had first rain in 5 days  again thank you all for comments it helped cheers Richy aka Topgun … Top down always

I use the 18" Denso Hybrid blades on my 5’s, they work really well and will fit the whole range from Mk1 - Mk4.

I normally get mine from Eurocarparts when they have a sale on…
