Who is running Meister R coilovers?

I think this is the suspension I will go for, they are pricey but I’m happy to pay for quality. I’ve been chatting to the owner Jerrick and he is expecting new stock of the MX5 Zeta-S in May with slightly softer spring rates approx 335/279lbs front/rear compared to the current 391/335lbs they are specced with, which seems to match my request for a great handling, but decent riding car. I’m OK with firm, but not crashy. My benchmark would be a very slightly lower than standard car I can briskly drive eg. a Highlands B-road on without worrying about skittish handling or bottoming out, but have an intact spine too!

Does anyone on here run these shocks?

Reading up on suspension is a nightmare, everyone seems to have a different opinion as suspension is fairly subjective. The way I see it, with something as adjustable as a fairly low volume manufacturer coilover, I should be able to find my perfect ride height and damping combination. Other set-ups I have been highly recommended, eg KYB AGX with Autolink springs, lack that complete adjustability - the ride height is at the mercy of the springs.

It all comes down to budget, usage and how often, with the meisters personally you have full control of your ride height and comfort level for our great roads, and I feel are on the same level as the teins at twice to price, they are well time tested with the Honda boys before hitting the market for the Mx/Roadsters, plus you will have the best of both worlds road use- soft setting, track -hard setting, you just set them to your own personal feel.<o:p></o:p>

 OE billies go on forever, but can be a crashy ride on the main roads, but are ok for the every now and then toy and the odd track day .(which I am sure Taff will be on now to tell us that is the only way to go Rolling eyes<v:shapetype coordsize=“21600,21600” o:spt=“75” o:preferrelative=“t” path=“m@4@5l@4@11@9@11@9@5xe” filled=“f” stroked=“f” id="_x0000_t75"><v:stroke joinstyle=“miter”></v:stroke><v:formulas><v:f eqn=“if lineDrawn pixelLineWidth 0”></v:f><v:f eqn=“sum @0 1 0”></v:f><v:f eqn=“sum 0 0 @1”></v:f><v:f eqn=“prod @2 1 2”></v:f><v:f eqn=“prod @3 21600 pixelWidth”></v:f><v:f eqn=“prod @3 21600 pixelHeight”></v:f><v:f eqn=“sum @0 0 1”></v:f><v:f eqn=“prod @6 1 2”></v:f><v:f eqn=“prod @7 21600 pixelWidth”></v:f><v:f eqn=“sum @8 21600 0”></v:f><v:f eqn=“prod @7 21600 pixelHeight”></v:f><v:f eqn=“sum @10 21600 0”></v:f></v:formulas><v:path o:extrusionok=“f” gradientshapeok=“t” o:connecttype=“rect”></v:path><o:lock v:ext=“edit” aspectratio=“t”></o:lock></v:shapetype>)<o:p></o:p>

Konis…I have personally replaced a number of units over the years which have rusted and gone solid, you have two settings for ride height, but adjuster for ride setting, simply because of how many I have replaced over the years, I don’t like them, Geoff Walton as a set on his in better weather are fine so don’t get our great salt problem.<o:p></o:p>

Gaz gold’s…Replaced a number of these also which seem to pop seal just after warrantee<o:p></o:p>

Teins…another set of units with full control, but you will pay for it.<o:p></o:p>

KYB’s with sports springs will give a nice stance and a great fixed ride, but you will lose the comfort, if the good lady jumps in ,she will not like it(result), they two are great for every now and then toy, or the odd track day, could I live with them on a everyday road roadster…no<o:p></o:p>

Raceland’s and under other different names, throw some petrol over them, and add a match.<o:p></o:p>

There are loads of different options, but like I said it is down to …budget…usage…and how often, and a biggy that does come into it regardless no matter what owners say is also the look.<o:p></o:p>

My Mk 1 is sitting on standard MK 2 OE suspension now which was used as a everyday  on meisters<o:p></o:p>

My Mk 2 1/4 every day roadster  is sitting on Mk 2 OE suspension<o:p></o:p>

My Mk 2 show car is sitting on meister R’s (which were on the Mk 1 for a few years)<o:p></o:p>

My Mk1.5 project play thing, keep my lad of playstation is sitting on Mk 2 OE suspension<o:p></o:p>

All mine are road cars and not for track use ever, May track car would be a different kettle of fish, it’s all down to personal choice<o:p></o:p>

I have never found Mk2 Bilies crashy and have had 2 cars with them on, but I went in a Mk1 with original Bilies on it and it nearly shook out my teeth

My Puredrives from P5 have proven to be very smooth on backroads. P5 no longer supply the kit, but ProTech (Wiltshire), who made the shock, do sell MX5 shocks still. I understand it now has a NATO-grade coating (P5 versions had a anodized clear coat, and an alloy adjuster that was a bit problematic in the early days, fine now I keep it coated in grease). My Puredrives use the Mk2 tp, and a pigtail spring from P5. I could have had the shock with a Mk-spring sized perch, and kept the Mk1 tops. Not sure what spring options, if any, Protech can offer. I think the fact they are British designed and developed for our roads is a major benefit over foreign alternatives.

Protech are £609 for shocks alone, so by the time springs, bumpstops and mounts all sorted they are out of my budget.

Thanks for the summary of your experiences Wayne, good to hear you rate the MeisterR’s.

I would suggest you check MX5Nutz - find out from people who have actually used them…

Don’t take any notice of people who haven’t actually used them…

They have a good reputation and reviews over there on Nutz, and the owner of the company is very communicative too.

My mk3 runs jerrick’s MeisterR’s.

Should of skipped the lowering spring phase & gone this way first of all

Thumbs up
