Who makes Mazda's timing chains?

I am about to start swapping out a 2.3 disi turbo into my mx5, - looking for a replacement timing chain kit with vvt adjuster and I’m wondering who makes Mazda’s timing chains? Imo there’s no need to pay extra for a Mazda logo if I can ger it cheaper directly from the original manufacturer and not a Mazda rebrand.

I have seen kits from fai and bilstein but they don’t come as a full kit (I know this isn’t exactly mx5 territory) does anyone know where to get a full set from a reputable brand for a decent price?

I might have one in stock, but am out today delivering a car, check on my website. You don’t want a set of forged rods for that do you? I have a set of those for sale too.

Whats included and what brand is the 2.3 vvt set, prices seem reasonable

The forged stuff can wait, thanks, on a budget and an increase of 100bhp from a 2.0 to a 2.3 turbo fi will do for a while! It’s mostly a daily runner for some fun.

I also notice you put some ford chains on your site, been looking over the web and have noticed what seems to be the same weight and link count for ford 2.3 and Mazda 2.3 timing chains, just different part numbers, are they actually the same as I know ford used the block but changed the head (apart from the fords chain being 30% cheaper from each brand)

How are you dealing with high pressure head mounted fuel pump? AFAIK it won’t fit in the MX5 with that on.
I don’t think the inlet, nor exhaust manifold will fit either

The information I have read on the internet is the firewall needs to be slightly massaged to get the high pressure fuel pump to fit

The inlet and exhaust will have to be moved.

The plan at the moment is to move the intercooler as it’s on top of the engine and again will probably get in the way, plus moving it away from the engine will help with keeping it cooler

The exhaust will possibly be a custom made one - it’s early days still, I haven’t done any exact measurements but the other way is using a flexible exhaust tube to mate them up.

It’s been done before by a few other people, they say the hardest part is actually the electronics as the disi engine uses a mitsubishi ECU due to the turbo.

I got a donar car so I got the ECU and wiring harness from that, plan is to splice the mx5 and cx-7 harness together - worst comes to worst run both ECUs and use one as a piggy back for the other.

But as the engine is out and will be a pain to get it out and back in in the future I’m doing some of the major overhauls while it’s out.

I will be sharing the progress of the build when I start, currently stripping down the cx-7 and hope to have the engine out this weekend
