Who takes their dogs in the car !

I have two whippets and will be taking them with me on occasions . They are fairly small but one will,I think, have to travel in the footwell. Does anyone else Travel with their dogs and has there been any problems.Only thing I will be wary of is when they sight a squirrel or cat …

Never actually got him into the 5 unfortunately (don’t think he would have fit anyway) he loved travelling in the Audi pictured behind though.  Now gone to doggy heaven sadly

Barrie

our staffie travels on the passenger seat, harness with restraint strap plugged into seatbelt socket

he loves it with the roof down and never gets car sick

Our Greyhound does not fit the 5

Whippets would definitely need securing been sight hounds

My best pal had a Newfoundland which travelled with him in his Citroen C1 ! My pal is six feet four so ther wasn’t much room left in the front

My previous labrador used to enjoy sitting in the passenger footwell of my Mk1 Roadster and rested his chin on the dashboard.

I now have a Mk2, and my current Black Lab won’t sit in the footwell, but likes to sit on the passenger seat (I use a waterproof seat cover). He has a harness attached to a click-in seatbelt attachment to keep him contained if necessary. He loves it when the roof is down!

I’ve taken dogs in one of my MX5s they normally just curl up and go to sleep, but depends on the dog.

Top tip, plug the seat belt in otherwise dogs weight will set off seatbelt alarm!

Here’s Jess, our little Cocker Spaniel.  Sadly we lost her last year, but she went everywhere with us, and especially loved outings in our Mk1, as she always associated that with a holiday or day out in the sunshine. If she heard the words 'Mazda, MX5 or Berkeley" she’d be queued up at the garage door ready to go!

She would travel in the footwell, and most of the time we were motoring would be curled up tight and fast asleep, just surfacing every now and then to jump up onto my wife’s lap to get some wind in her ears, and check out the view. She attended many owners club rallies with us, all our MX5 day trips, and all our MX5 holidays including long tours.

In the photo you’ll see her with a short lead from her collar, disappearing under the glove compartment.  That was attached to a pressed out loop that I found up under the carpet, which was ideal to restrain her, and if we wanted to be sure she stayed put when the doors were open.

We miss her.

Hi.  Sorry for butting in but please check the legal requirements for securing your dog(s) in the car.  If you don’t you could be in trouble with the police and in the event of an accident invalidate your insurance.  A family acquaintance learnt this the hard way.  Good luck.

I’m thinking of putting my Jack Russell down as a named driver now he’s over his ban for speeding.

Think that picture could well be Pitlochry. I remember saying hello to Jess. Who could resist investigating the combination of a lovable pooch and a beautiful 5.
