Is everyone waiting for summer to sell, or do you just prefer trading it back in as part-ex?
Btw I’m looking for a 1.5L ND2 soft top… pref red but open to other colours. Within 50 miles of London

I’d bide your time, it’s not properly MX-5 weather (for some) and selling season yet![]()
I suspect it’s because they might as well wait a bit to sell during spring/summer for an easier sell and maybe a bit more money.
Plenty of NCs and earlier via private sale. I presume that’s because dealers would offer too little.
Welcome, have seen you exploring the various FB groups as well ![]()
Remember to keep an eye on the Classifieds here, if you aren’t already:
Oh… and widen your search radius would be my advice. Explore the country and enjoy getting to know the car on the way back to London ![]()
Happy hunting!
Cheers,
Steve
Haha, 2 hours and 50/60 miles is already a real adventure for me!
But what if the ideal car for you is… 61 miles away? ![]()
Mine was 544 miles away in Inverness!
Cheap flight from Bristol and a lovely overnight drive home.
Excellent work Sir.
I only had the 222 miles from Cheshire to Kent for my last one. Train down, drive back up. Simples ![]()
You’ve spotted and considered this privately listed example near to you, I presume? Have you been to view?
It’s been listed since the end of Nov. Not red, but a nice spec nonetheless:

not interested in the 2L ? Yes it doesn’t rev as well but I’m guessing it’s not a track car and you’ll have so much more torque
There are 65 ND2 1.5’s currently listed on Autotrader. 11 of them are red.
585 miles away for the most recent one, 591 for the one before that and 577 for the one before that, the right car is more important than the distance.
Only 2 from private sellers, 1 of which is a CAT car…
Majority of time will be spent driving in central London, so can’t use the extra that the 2.0L has - plus I’ve heard that actually the 1.5L is a more fun engine at slow speeds, and what the car was designed around - and 2.0 was only introduced for the yank market as they would never buy a car less than 2.0L
If I travel 500 miles and see a car I end up not wanting to buy, for example if it doesn’t match the photos or there’s a problem - that’s a VERY long way home empty handed. I rather travel to somewhere I can meet the owner, and if I choose not to buy their car, then it’s not a massive waste of time trying to get home.
Thank you. Not keen on the colour of the car, the seats, nor the roof. I’ve been thinking a lot about trims as well, and it seems the SE-L missed out on all the nanny-safety upgrades entirely. I like the idea of a car which DOESN’t have: Driver Attention Alert, Lane Departure Warning System , Smart City Brake Support – Front (including autonomous emergency braking) – Rear, Smart keyless entry, Traffic Sign Recognition.
Later ones do.
You need a 2018 or earlier Sel- Nav to miss out on all of those nannys. My 2L, Sel-Nav got nothing, not even start/stop. I wouldn’t write off the 2L Sel_Nav of that era if one came up with suitable mileage/condition. It’s also got pretty much the same suspension as on the 1.5L too, as it don’t have the Bilstein shocks. YOu mentioned fun at lower speeds on the 1.5L. Which if course is true, but again, I certainly have fun in my 2L Sel-Nav. On a cracking spin earlier it was boarder line religious experience stuff ![]()
Correct.
This is true, potential mitigations are getting someone local to assess the car which may be possible through the owners club network or buying approved used which isn’t always straightforward either.
I’d recommend Pitlane Performance in Sevenoaks, they have good stock and Sam is a nice guy.
I bought my NC from him.
