Why did Mazda UK exclude the Safety Pack from 30th Anniversary NDs?

Some are under the assumption that the 30th Anniversary NDs come “fully loaded”. This is not the case for UK supplied cars since the Safety Pack is not included. If it helps, this pack fitted to other NDs include the following:

  • High Beam Control (HBC)
  • Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM)
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)

As far as I’m aware the only option offered for the 30th Anniversary was whether you wanted a soft top or an RF. Everything else was included as standard.

I was wondering if anyone knew the reasoning behind this strange omission?

Strange that, I have the GT Sport Nav+, which was the top model at the time. I find the adaptive high beam and the cross traffic alert quite useful.

Also looking at the brochure I have it seems that the 30AE is also missing the reversing camera and parking sensors.

Hmm, rear parking sensors are actually included. I had completely forgotten about the reversing camera ever since someone mentioned the ND2 onwards version resembling a particular aspect of the human anatomy :see_no_evil:

Cost.

That would make sense since Mazda UK seemingly ordered these cars from Japan in one batch potentially explaining the lack of options.

Also, it seems the UK lost some of its original 30th Anniversary allocation to the US due to lower than anticipated sales. It appears the US version is actually fully loaded for their own market.

Like others on here who took advantage of UK situation resulting in decent discount, my car was already sitting at port in Belgium awaiting to be transported.

Did the safety pack survive through the worst of the chip shortage era ('21-'22 say)?
Of course the 30AE pre dates this, but I wondered if all of the safety kit has always been available. I’m sure I used to see ‘no bsm’ on a few ads?

Is the adaptive high beam you’re referring to, the same as what’s demonstrated in this video?

If you’re watching the video via this website, it is recommended to turn on the subtitles since the uploader has added useful comments.

It seems there are quite a few different terms and acronyms for all ND headlight variations.

Just seem like regular headlights. What am I missing?

Sorry, I posted too early! I’ve edited it to recommend turning on the video’s subtitles.

Yes, those are the ones, they are so good. They still seem like magic to me.

I have a January 2024 model 2.0L Exclusive Line that according to the certificate of conformity that came with it was built on the 10th January 2023. This was listed with no blind spot monitoring and there was a brand new Homura that was listed the same. We have adaptive headlights and they are very clever, just leave it on main beam and the car does the rest. According to the dealer it was a car that they were sent by Mazda to sell and probably wouldn’t have ordered it to put in their showroom, it was in a Blue Cross sale and was heavily discounted, they gave us a good deal for 1.5 Icon and the wife drooled over it, so missing blind spot monitoring, who cares.

I think its probably a balance of cost. The paint is likely to have cost a lot more, the wheels obviously do too. Compared to the Recaro the Aero Kit also should have been included on such a special edition, but again I suspect it wasn’t because of the other items included.

In the big book of the AE30 that you were (should have been) sent there is a table in the back showing which market got what on their AE30s. Quite a few variables, like US RFs are all orange without the black roof stripe!

Wherever it it is it looks like a great road to drive.
Oh lights are pretty good too

Having just looked through it, it seems to only list common specifications across all markets. Must admit I completely forgot about this book :see_no_evil:

One other variable is 16x7 inch Rays wheels which of all the 30th Anniversary models, the Japanese market supplied soft top only received them. Non-Rays 16 inch wheels came in 16x6.5 and both sizes have the same +45 offset as well as 195/50 Yokohama Advan Sport V105 tyres.

Forgot to mention that all soft top NDs supplied to the Japanese market only had the 1.5L engine including the 30th Anniversary model. Only the RFs were offered with the 2.0L engine over there.

Bright orange paintwork can be seen from miles away, seems safe enough without the Safety pack, jobs a good 'un

They tend not to see any colour when on their mobile phone.

Same here, I had 2017 launch edition. When l brought a 30th, l notice that l haven’t got HBC,BSM and RCTA. The launch edition is based on Top of range mx5, (sport nav model). not sure what 30th model based on? l miss these systems on a car. Because l got RF model BSM and RCTA would be nice to have.

Acronym city. What do the multitude of acronyms stand for?
