Can i fit 195’/55 s safely to 5.5j steel rims or are 185’s the widest that i should go ( these are spare wheels that are going to be used for track use hoping to fit 195’s) any advise appreciated.
You can probably get 195/45/14 to go onto the wheels, but there is very little choice and therefore they are an expensive size fitment, they will be awful for track use too with too much sidewall. You are better to stick to 185/60/14 or buy some 15 inch 6.5" or 7" rims and use 195/50/15.
Thanks for the reply.
Ive just found this resource on the net
http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg4.html
It gives masses of information on tyre sizing. offset, rim sizes plus loads of handy calculators to help plan whats required. well worth a look.
Ive decided to go for Yokohama A048-r 185/55/14 they would seem to be fine on the 5.5inch steels and are £100 a corner so comparable with 15" tyre prices.
this will very slightly reduce the gearing to so may help a little on accelaration for the hillclimbs ive entered this year.
Hopefully my theory is corect
